"Good morning princess" the voice was met with silence, "Princess?" The darkness of the room became nonexistent, as light flooded in. A strong, big figure was sitting on my bed, looking at me.

I sit up, "Daddy?"

"Hey princess. It's time to get up." My dad whispers.

"But, Daddy," I drawl out groaning, "I don't wanna,"

"I've let you sleep in for as long as I could, sweetheart, any longer and you're crazy mother's gonna kill me," He smiles back at me as he grabs my clothes set out last night."Please, be down in a couple of minutes, your sister is already awake," I grab the clothes from him with chubby, 11-year old fingers and a groan.

"But dad..." I drone.

"Be downstairs soon, I've gotta go to work."

After changing I head downstairs, noticing my dad opening the front door, "Daddy, no! You can't go!" I hug him to me as tight as I can.

He looks down at me wrapping his arms around me, "Princess you have to let me go to work."

"NOOOOO!!! You can't!" Mom comes over when she hears the rukus.

She chuckles at the scene, "Honey you have to let him go to work."

A smaller warm body covers mine to hug my dad as well. "Oh great, you'll never be able to leave now, Ben."

"Come on girls, I've got to go to work, I'll bring you both a present when I come home, alright?"

Both me and Lo shout "YAY" at the same time and let go of him as we dance around in joy. He then leaves and we heard the car engine turn on and leave the driveway.

"Whitney? Whitney?" Brushing the tears from under my eyes, I stand up straight acting like everything is fine.

"Hey Lo" Straightening myself up she looks at me.

"What's wrong? You okay?" She goes to sit on my bed.

"Yea I was just thinking about dad, you don't have to worry about me, I'm fine," I say sitting on my bed next to her looking down in my lap.

"Wit, you don't look fine at all, what memory was it?" She looks at me.

"That last time we saw him." There I go again, crying. Can't I get over it?

"Here let's go into town and get some ice cream." She stands up, looks at me, and holds out her hand for me to grab. I grabbed it right away brushing off my leftover tears.

"Sounds like a plan, but we are walking and I don't trust you driving and I don't want to drive."

"Just because I'm sixteen and young don't mean I'm a bad driver."

"CAN'T HEAR YOU!" I was already out the door while she was still inside.

"WAIT UP, I'M COMING!" Lo says. And like that, we were on our way to the ice cream shop.

"Hello, girls," A lady says as we walked in the door.

"Hi, Maggie!" Lo says.

"Hey Maggie," I say after her.

"What kind would you like, dears?" She asks putting her plastic gloves on referring to the ice cream. Usually once a week, maybe twice, Lorretta and I come to this little ice cream shop around the corner from our house. Maggie is the owner, and since we helped her open it, she let us pick the name as well. It's the only one nearby, others are miles away.

Maggie is a sweet 64-year-old lady. Her husband unfortunately passed away 3 years ago. A couple of years ago, someone left an oven on in a bakery, and burnt down the building, so Maggie and her husband, John, decided to get to work and made it into Two Scoops of Happiness, or Two Scoops for short. They also have 2 kids, Grace and Ryan. Grace is 25 and Ryan is 21. Grace is a very good friend of mine but she moved to a different country. Grace is married and she has a baby boy on the way. Ryan is single but I think he's interested in someone. I'm not sure, I've seen him with a girl around town. I think her name is Bethany or Bianca. I know it starts with a B.

"I'll have a mint chocolate chip, please." She gets the ice cream scooper and puts it in a dish.

"And you, Lorretta?"

She hands me mine and looks at Lo. "I'll have Cookies N' Cream in a cone, please," Lo says.

"Good choice." Maggie's ice cream shop is famous for her homemade ice cream. It's the best thing I've ever had. Honestly, my tastebuds would cry if they never had it again.

After she's done with the ice creams she smiles at us, "It's on the house, dears," I shake my head, knowing its useless arguing with her and place 7 dollars in the tip jar. "Oh hun, you don't have to." She reaches to hand me it back.

I back away and head towards the door with Lo, "No please take it, you deserve it." Lo says smiling at the kind old lady.

She puts the money back and says thank you. We say our goodbyes and head back home.
