Last Hope

Chapter Four

Blue team stood there facing the hunter saying nothing.

"Get to cover," Tucker Finally said "NOW!"

Everyone scattered running away from the hunter, except Tucker. He ran straight towards it.

"What are you doing?" Chy asked through the radio "Don't be a hero, you can't take that thing head on."

"I can if he can't see me," Tucker said in return.

Just that quick he tapped his data pad on his wrist, and he disappeared into thin air. The hunter sat there confused. Not a single trace of him every being there. A moment later gun fire peppered the hunter's side, it was coming out of nowhere. The hunter turned to fight, nothing was there.

"Where'd he go?" Chy said.

"I don't know," Junior chimed in.

Just that quick a rocket hit the hunter's back, shredding it the instant the rocket connected with it. The hunter fell to the ground a second later. Everyone came out of their cover, Tucker reappeared in front of everyone.

"Who shot that rocket?" He said.

"Wasn't me," Clementine said "I don't think it was any of us."

After she said that a figure walked out of a building close by. He wasn't very tall compared to Tucker, but the same height as everyone else. He wore ODST armor.

"I shot that rocket," the man said.

Everyone faced him, Tucker pulled his pistol in his direction.

"STAR!" Tucker yelled.

"Texas," he said in return.

Tucker lowered his pistol. "Who are you?" Tucker asked.

"You can call me Frost," he responded "And you're welcome for saving your sorry a-"

"What made you think we needed help?" Junior said walking towards Frost.

"What the hell!" Frost yelled pulling his pistol out "Back up now."

"Hold your fire he's with us," Noob said "He's friendly."

"Why?" Frost said.

"Classified information," Tucker and Sabre said in unison.

"I hope I can trust you guys," he said putting his pistol away.

"The same goes for you," Doc said.

"So where you guys heading?" Frost asked.

"The evacuation outpost on the city limits," Tucker said "you know how to get there?"

"Now how?" Frost said "I'm going there. My time here is up, I'm getting reassigned."

"You wanna come with us?" Tucker asked.

"I don't think that's a good idea," Chy said "he might slow us down."

"Or help us," Tucker said turning towards Chy "so, you in?" He turned back to Frost.

Frost was silent for a while. "Alright I'll help you guys," he finally said "on one condition."

"What's that?" Noob asked.

"You guys help me out with something," Frost responded.

"What do you need help with?" Sabre asked.

"I need your help leveling a building," Frost said "I need to do this for the UNSC."

"Deal," Tucker said stretching out his hand. He and Frost shook hands. "Welcome to Fifth Echelon."

"Sounds kinda cheesy," Frost said.

"I know," Tucker said shaking his head "it's a long story."

"Well come on guys." Sabre said "We're not gonna make it to the outpost by dusk, if you keep talking."

"You guys lead the way," Frost said.

"I'll take point," Tucker said "I know a place where we can stay and rest. We're not gonna make it by dusk, so might as well get closer."

"Let's go," Clementine said.

Tucker lead them down the twisting streets of New Mombasa. He knew these streets better than anyone, he grew up here. Things have changes since he was a kid, but not much. As he was moving he was whispering something to himself. Everyone could hear it, it was over the radio. He wasn't wearing a helmet, only a ski mask and what looked like night vision goggles. Tucker stopped, and gave everyone the hand signal to stop as well.

"What's wrong?" Chy asked.

"Noob, hand me your rifle." Tucker said ignoring Chy. Noob did as he was told.

"What do you see?" Sabre asked.

Tucker still said nothing. He was blocking them all out. He was lining up a shot, but none of them knew that. So Noob placed his hand on Tucker's shoulder, Startling him. Tucker pulled the trigger and let a sniper round to straight through a grunt's head. Not the shot he intended, he wanted to hit the brute to his left. But at least it wasn't a wasted shot. Tucker wanted to hit Noob right in the head with the rifle, but he had just started a firefight. It would have to wait.

"Move to cover," Tucker said "we got contact."

The brute looked straight towards them. He alerted the rest of the pack. Then they all went invisible. It was to bright out for all of them to turn on their VISIRs so they were fighting blind. But Tucker had a secret weapon. They all moved out into the open and took defensive positions in the courtyard. Tucker pulled down his goggles and pulled out his energy sword. Sabre questioned what he was doing, but he had to trust him. Tucker sprinted toward a certain point, he lunged with his sword. Sabre saw nothing there. But out of nowhere the sword connected with something, and blood appeared. He had found a brute. Sabre didn't know how he had done it, and turned toward Chy next to him. He saw something shine behind her, and pushed her out of the way. He whipped his brute shot out, swinging its blade. It connecting with a brute. He opened radio signal.

"Watch out for a glimmer," Sabre said "they're aren't completely invisible like Tucker"

They all winked green on his HUD. Doc had the best advantage, he had a shotgun. But there was something they didn't count on.

A brute chieftain.

He jumped into the courtyard, right in front of Tucker. He swung his hammer right at him. A near hit, he was just out of reach. Tucker ran up the hammer and yelled into the radio.

"Keep your distance," he yelled "I'll take care of him. Just keep me covered."

They all winked green, but he couldn't see the lights so it was pointless. He stayed just of of reach of the brute. Taking shots with his pistol. Until the brute charged him.

Hitting his chest with the hammer, sending into a wall nearby.

Unconscious.
