THIRTY FOUR

{infinity war}

     It was chaos. The cries of people fighting echoed across the ship. Astrid was with Valkyrie and Korg helping the others escape.

"Is this really the last pod we have?" Astrid looked around. It still wasn't enough, there was still people who needed to get off the ship.

"Looks like it." Valkyrie turned to her with a somber expression. The ship rumbled again. If they didn't get off soon, they would go down with it. "Astrid, we need to go!"

"What about the others? What about Loki? We can't just leave them?!"

"Astrid! I promised to keep you safe and that's what I intend to do now please. Let's go!"

[flashback]

"Valkyrie! Take Korg, Miek and Astrid. Round up the civilians and use the escape pods to get them to safety." Thor was instructing people while attacks were incoming from Thanos. Screams of the scared Asgardians surrounding them. "Loki, Bruce, Heimdall. I need you with me."

Astrid wasn't happy with the plan, but she knew better than to argue against it. She turned to see Loki. For the first time in forever, he looked truly scared.

"I wish to thank each and everyone of you for your bravery." The group departed and Astrid places a hand on Loki's bringing him back to reality.

"Loki? Are you alright?"

"I'm fine my love. You must go, I will be right behind you." Loki was hesitant about answering, but when he did, he caressed her face. She wasn't completely convinced though. Loki had told her about his encounter with Thanos that lead to the attack of New York. How he had tortured him and manipulated him. How he controlled him.

"You promise?" Astrid brought her hands up to his face, making sure their eyes made contact as they spoke.

"I promise." Loki planted a soft kiss on her lips. He didn't want to say goodbye so didn't kiss her like it would be the last time before they separated.

[end of flashback]

"No. I'm not leaving him again!" Astrid ran off away from Valkyrie to find Loki and Thor.

"Astrid!" Valkyrie tried running after her but was held back by Korg.

"She will be alright. We need to get these people away from the ship, and we need to leave with them." Valkyrie wanted to argue against him but knew he was right.

As Astrid was running through the burning ship, she encountered a few of Thanos' children which she had fought off easily. She could feel she was getting closer to him, however something else was blocking her way.

Proxima Midnight

"Where are you heading to little one?" Astrid observed the creature in front of her. Watching for her first move of attack.

"Nowhere until you are out of my way."

With few words exchanged, the two battled it out. Astrid getting a few good hits on Proxima, but Proxima hit back harder. Astrid had used up way too much energy recently. The battle of the rainbow bridge may have been a stretch for her. Astrid saw an opening for one last attack with little energy she had left.

But...

Just when she thought she had her. Proxima was always two steps ahead. She dug her spear into Astrid's stomach. A wave of panic shot through Astrid's body. She gripped her stomach the best she could to try stop the bleeding and with hope that she could be healed, nothing happened... she couldn't feel any energy coming from her baby.

"No." she whispered in defeat. As she fell limp, Proxima Midnight dragged her away towards Thanos.

Maybe this time, she should've listened.
