Chapter 3

"You what?!" Luke yelled making a few people in the pizza parlor jump in shock.

"Sshh! I didn't know he'd actually believe me!" I laughed trying to regain my breath, but failing none the less.

"So let me back this up, you called Harry and told him you were in premature labor as an April fools joke? And he showed up at the hospital only to find you not there?" He asked making sure he was understanding correctly.

"Yea pretty much, you should have seen his face, his eyes grew like 3 sizes! It was unbelievable." I giggled again at the memory.

"You're evil Lucy Ann." He grinned looking up from his menu.

We ordered allowing the conversation to die down and settle into a blanket like silence. Even as we ate the silence never lifted, which made for a nice, light hearted meal.

The bus boy came around and collected our dishes giving us space to stretch our limbs onto the table. Not that was very appropriate manners wise, but oh well.

"So I know it's not my business, but what happened..between you and Harry I mean?" He questioned, his face softening.

"You mean how did we get a a and eventually get to where we are now?" My eyebrows raised in slight confusion.

"Well yea, I mean you had to have loved him at some point." His eyes were soft, and even though I'd only known him a few hours, I felt I could trust him.

"Well, Harry and I were best friends our entire childhood. We spent every minute together until I was about 13, we just became interested in different things and one day he just wasn't my best friend anymore. We grew up and got on with our lives just like normal people do, but one day everything changed. I woke up to him in my mothers living room in tears. I remember it hurt, looking at him hurt; that's when I knew I was in love with him. Here was this broken, battered boy, and I still took the responsibility of fixing him; because I was convinced that's what you did when you love someone. Eventually he became the same boy I knew before, he was my best friend again. And I loved that. Slowly but surely, he fell in love with me as well. We spent every waking moment together, which obviously led to the making of Ava. After she was born we both just stopped. We stopped communicating, stopped getting along, we stopped loving each other. We were drained, and whatever love we had left in ourselves was given to her. I knew long before we split that it was over. But I wasn't going to say anything because it wasn't fair. Here was this perfect little girl, she deserved the perfect family, which included a mum and dad. I tried Luke, I really did, but he fell out of love as well. So we both agreed that for the well being of Ava, we'd live in the same home and comfortably raise Ava together. It worked, until it didn't anymore. Which brings us where we are now." I smiled slightly with embarrassment, wiping a small tear from my cheek.

"You didn't do anything wrong Lucy, I hope you know that. I know I really haven't known you long, but I can clearly see, that you tried. I mean, you wouldn't be in this mess now if you hadn't tried your hardest. Now you have to know that what's best for yourself and Ava, is getting out of that house." Luke placed his hand in my own rubbing soothing circles on my palms.

"Thank you Luke, it feels nice to get that out. I don't even know if Calum knows the story to the full extent." Our eyes met creating thousands of sparks unseen to the blind eyes.

His eyes were the kind one could get lost in, and I felt myself falling deeper and deeper into what could be an amazing relationship.

When Luke and I returned home, Calum had already put Ava to bed; I guess time tends to slip away when you're having a great night.

"Hey guys!" Cal cheered, chirpier than normal.

"Hey?" A giggle slipped through my lips.

"So what'd you two do? I wanna know everything!" He giggled like a school girl hearing new play yard gossip.

"Nothing Calum Thomas, now goodnight." I laughed again rolling my eyes.

Luke looked almost upset that the night was already coming to an end, the feeling was mutual. I walked over and placed my hand on his cheek, a small smile blessed his handsome features.

"Goodnight m'lady." He mumbled in my ear once he had pulled me into a tight, comforting embrace.

"Goodnight good sir." He laughed pecking my forehead in a friendly manner.

I placed a gentle kiss on his cheek before turning on my heels and heading down the hall. I'd made it all the way through my night routine before realizing, I'd brought no pajamas. A blush was spread on my cheeks as I walked back to the living room.

"Hey Cal.." I mumbled quietly not looking up from the carpet.

"Yes my baby?" I giggled looking up only a bit.

"May I borrow a pajama shirt? I've forgotten to pack mine." He laughed shaking his head.

"Top right drawer take your pick." I laughed as well thanking him before heading back to bed finally.

The day had been anything but normal, but it was still a night worth while. I was reunited with my best friend, and had very effectively made a new kind hearted friend.
