a/n: haha imagine starting a story and then starting a new story half way through and totally abandoning your first story haha. couldn't be me 😍. seriously though, i'm so sorry it's been so long. i got super caught up in the christmas one shots, and totally abandoned this one. well, please take this chapter as an apology. also if the way i'm writing has changed, i'm sorry, it's been a while.
bokuto pov:
"bokuto, why did you start working here?" kenma asked.
pausing from my task of washing mai, i looked up at kenma, not sure what to say. obviously i couldn't say the truth. luckily, a half-truth occurred to me.
"well, i've always loved animals, and suga's one of my close friends. he said he really needed help around this place, so i volunteered to help him out!"
kenma looked down at me, as if appraising me, and said quietly, "very in character for you, bokuto."
he walked over to one of the nearby cages, as if that conversation hadn't even happened.
then mai hissed, and i realized i had been washing her for far longer than necessary. picking her up, i handed her to akaashi, who toweled her off and but her back in her cage.
"so kenma, uh, are you interested in adopting any of our cats?" i said, trying to quell the tension in the air.
kenma looked up, and said "ah, um... well, which cat has been here the longest?"
i motioned towards a cage next to me, where a small, brown cat that was missing an eye sat. "she's old, and half blind, so not a lot of people wanna take her in," i sighed. "her name is azul, but you can always rename her if you adopt her,"
"can i hold her?" kenma asked, peering into her cage.
i opened up her cage and pulled her out, giving her a kiss on her forehead, and then handing her to kenma.
kenma held her close to his chest, one hand under her feet and one around her back. "hello azul," he said softly, petting her and scratching her head.
to my surprise, she began to purr, her throat rumbling. "wow, she's purring!" i said happily. "she usually doesn't trust new people!"
kenma chuckled softly, and said "i think i have to take her,"
i gave a happy laugh, glad azul was finally getting a home.
kenma filled out the adoption papers, while akaashi and i put a collar on azul and got her a small carrier crate. "alright, you're all set!" i said, while akashi smiled softly behind me.
"well, i'm going to go home and get her situated, it was good to meet you, bokuto." he said softly, then walked out the door.
"what did you think of him?" akaashi asked.
"he was a little strange, but he seems really nice!" i said enthusiastically.

a/n: i'm pretty sure you can't actually adopt an animal until you are eighteen, but whatever. just pretend that you just have to be 16 lol. again, i'm really, really sorry i haven't updated in months, but i should be back to updating more regularly soon, hopefully. also, my apologies for the short chapter, i probably should have just made kenma's visit only one chapter lol
