A.N. I own Jace and Ace.

When the tires faded I looked around, I needed some place to hide the money, and there was one place I knew of that only I could find. There was no one around and I smiled. The bag of money I was given was surprisingly light so I shifted into a black angel and took flight. Clouds blocked out the moon and I could smell a metallic touch in the air.  It was going to rain, and I heard the thunder clap above me.

I smiled and flapped my wings harder, the bag of money pulled tight to chest. The thunder got louder the closer I got to the clouds and I felt the wind rip and my hair, clothes, and feathers. When I reached the base of the clouds, a downpour of cold rain fell across my back If anyone was going to track me my scent would be washed away before they could catch it. I suddenly remembered that I was wearing leather and regretted the choice to fly through the rain. I flew through the clouds as fast as I could and looked myself over. I must have been flying fast enough not to get too wet because  my clothes were completely dry.

I thought of a way to keep my clothes dry when I got to the place I needed and smiled. I shifted into a dragon, but this time I found that I had no control over the color of my scales. My scales, teeth, and claws were once again made from the same metal as Logan’s claws. I flew for another few miles before folding my wings and falling below the clouds. I navigated through the cliffs of the Canadian mountains and hid the bag in a small hole barely big enough for a deer at the top of a mountain that no living thing dared climb to.

It was a new moon night and I could tell by the temperature that dawn was still far off. After securing the money in it’s hiding place, I flew back to Long Island. It was still dark and I decided to get a few hours of sleep before going home and found a field in the thicker part of the forest and curled up in it. I woke up just after dawn and marveled at the dew glistening off my scales, turning my metal scales the color of silver. I didn't even shake the dew from my scales and a small pool at the edge of the field.

When I looked at my reflection I was shocked to find that my eyes were the same dark blue as they are when I’m human. I took a drink from the pool then jumped into the sky. I was farther away from Logan’s cabin than I thought, I had to fly for a few hours before I saw it. I lowered myself to the ground and I’m sure if anyone was in the cabin they could hear me, and I was correct. Everyone rushed out the door and watched me.

I landed on the ground with a loud thud, and tucked my wings to my side. I looked down at them and yawned, shifting back to my normal self. I looked around and blinked, readjusting to the heightened senses of my human self when I heard Logan’s voice. “Where were you?!” He yelled at me. I turned around to face him and said “Why do you care?” He marched towards me until he stood only two feet away. “Because I’m your father and I was worried.” He replied his tone matter of factly.

I stared at him blankly for a second or two then slowly said “Where was I? Where was I?” I paused for a second before continuing on, this statement at a normal speed. “A more important question is where were you?” He stared at me in shock for a minute before his expression changed to confusion. I couldn’t hold it back anymore, I let all of my anger flow into my words as I began speaking softly, clenching my fists, “Where were you? Where were you when you were needed?” I doubted he knew what I was talking about so I spoke up, my voice reaching a yell by the time I finished “Where were you when mom was in debt? Where were you when mom’s brother died?! Where were you when we almost lost everything?!! Where were you when we needed you?!!! WHERE WERE YOU WHEN I NEEDED A FATHER?!!!!!!!!!”

He looked at me blankly for a few seconds and tears started streaming down my face. “That’s what I thought.” I said, my tone filled with disappointment. I turned my back to him and slowly began walking away. I felt his hand on my shoulder, and stopped momentarily before shaking it off and walking away without a second thought, tears stinging my cheeks. Something clicked behind me and I heard a bang, the sound of a gun going off. I didn’t care if the bullet hit me, I didn’t care about anything at the moment, I just wanted to be alone.
