I woke up groggy and I wasn’t lying in a bed, I was strapped to a chair. I was still in my prom dress and shoes, my hair was still pulled back, but there was something sitting on my head, and I had a blindfold on. I remembered every minute of prom, the dances, the talks, and kidnapping. I could hear laughing but didn’t know where it was coming from. There was clicking and clacking sounds, like high heels on cement. The sound got closer then stopped. A hand was drawn across my cheek and I pulled away.
“Oh, where’s your mom now?” An all too familiar voice said, Sophie was here. I felt a pinch in my arm and Sophie chuckled. I struggled and tried to shift. Sophie chuckled and piped up “Oh don’t bother, it won’t work.” “W...what?” I asked panicked. “Mutation can be stopped, and that’s what we did to you.” Sophie explained. Something tugged on my head and seconds later I was exposed to a bright light.
After blinking only the stars know how many times I saw Sophie and Ian grinning at me. “It’s too bad Karol can’t be here to see you now.” Ian mocked. “Why am I here and where am I?” I demanded. “You’re a long way from home.” Sophie smiled. I struggled harder and Ian drew his balled fist across my face. I grimaced in pain then looked at him from the corner of my eye. “Why am I here?” I demanded again, this time with a growl.
They only laughed at me. Sophie stabbed a needle full of a transparent white liquid into my arm and Ian walked behind me, grabbed my hair, and pulled my head back. “Where is the base of your team leader?” Ian whispered in my ear. I didn’t answer him and only struggled to free myself of his grip. “How is he so strong?” I thought to myself. He used his other hand to force my mouth open and hold it that way.
Sophie had a vile of a clear liquid and an evil grin on her face. “If you don’t tell us where it is then you won’t have a voice to tell anyone anything.” I tried to pull away but felt pressure on my jaw. I didn’t say anything against the pressure or to answer the question. Sophie put the beaker up to my lip and poured a single drop of the liquid down my throat. It burned like drinking fire from the river Lethal in the underworld. It was horrid and I wasn’t even able to heal. They kept putting some of that strange liquid in my system every five minutes.
“Where is it?” Ian smiled. I didn’t have time to answer before Sophie poured the entire beaker of that acid down my throat. I couldn’t scream, breathe, or speak, it was the most horrid thing in the world. They left me to writhe in pain and think of a way to escape. A few minutes later I slowly began to heal and they returned to inject me with more of that horrible white liquid. I could handle this. It really wasn’t all that bad considering the things that I had already been through.
At about midnight, I woke up to find more acid flowing down my throat, and I couldn’t even heal. During this treatment I couldn’t help myself from thinking that none of my family cared that I was missing. A few tears streaked my face with pain and Sophie ripped one of my teeth from my jaw and poured acid on the fresh, open wound. I wanted to scream, I couldn’t stand the taste and feeling of the acid running through my body. They injected me with more of the white liquid, Ian moved the sleeve of my dress, and sophie stabbed my shoulder with a serrated knife and slid it down my arm. She turned around and grabbed two beakers.
She poured a clear liquid into one I know is acid and mixed them. “It’s surprising that when acid is mixed with salt water just how bad it burns.” Sophie smiled. She poured the mix on my shoulder wound and I had to bite my already hurting tongue to keep from screaming. “Where is the base?” Ian asked me again. I looked at him out of the corner of my eye and glared as best as I could. After a few minutes of my silence Sophie drew the glass beaker across my face. It shattered on impact and I felt the glass shards embed themselves in my skin.
She injected me with more of the white liquid and they left me alone. Every five to ten minutes someone would come to me and inject me with more of the white liquid, I could still feel the acid burning my throat, stomach, and wounds. I was covered in blood, alone, and I couldn’t find a way out. I slouched against the chair and let myself fall asleep. When I woke up I was lying in the field my mom lives in, I was still in my prom dress, but I looked like I was just walking out the door. I didn’t have any cuts, there was no acid or glass in my skin or system and I did hurt, but that was only because my mortal body was abused and beaten.
