Jace was still small compared to me and I saw Victor, Logan, Jessica, and the other members of that team standing in front of the cabin ready for battle and Sophie and Ian were standing opposite of them. I circled above them in the sky and Jace circled followed my example. I finally realized what was going on and landed in between them. Jace landed next to me and I looked at him. He nodded and we roared at the two opposing teams. The team on Logan’s side flinched and Sophie and Ian looked from each other to Jace and I. They both smiled and Ian took the form of a black bear. I didn’t know that Sophie was a mutant but disappeared in a cloud of white mist and reappeared behind the one with all of the guns.
She took all of the guns on his back and chest and only left him with the two he had in his hands. When she appeared beside Ian she dropped the guns and broke them all. Why were they back? Did they want to kill us all, if they did, good luck. “Two against ten? How are you going to win?” Victor yelled at Sophie. She smiled and whistled. Seconds later there was about ten thousand people standing behind Sophie and Ian, all of them equipped with weapons meant to kill.
Ian stood as a bear in front of all of them and Sophie yelled “FIRE! KILL THEM ALL!! I WANT NO SURVIVORS!” There was no hesitation before bullets were fired from ten thousand animated rifles. I roared a warning and Jace began breathing fire at some of the men. I knew the bullets would be able to penetrate his scales upon closer inspection, and his flame wouldn’t last for very long. I joined Jace in lighting the men on Sophie’s side on fire but soon Jace was out of fuel and the men were starting to find his soft spots.
I stopped breathing fire as Jace shifted back to human. I picked him up and flew to a place where I knew he would be safe and close. I gently placed him on the ground and shifted back. “Jace are you okay?” I asked worried. “Yeah I’m fine, I guess I just need to learn my limits.” He said back. I hugged him and he hugged me back. “I have to go back and help fight.” I said after a minute or two. He sighed and said “First, a kiss for safety.” I replied by smiling and pressing my lips to his. He returned the kiss and I could tell it was with passion.
I pulled away when I felt like it was too long and said “I will come back. I promise.” He nodded and watched me go. I took the form of a dragon and flew away, within seconds I found a camp of men, all with guns waiting to be called to fight. On every tent there was Sophie’s or Ian’s name and I knew this camp was for Sophie, Ian, and their men. I didn’t hesitate to light everything on fire, I would come back later and douse the remaining flames.
I found more of the soldiers with the guns and lit them on fire too. So far the ten thousand men had become twenty hundred and they shot at me instead of shooting at the team. I was really shocked to find that they didn’t realize they were wasting bullets. I got so irritated with them that I landed and flicked my tail at multiple of them. When they stopped firing at me I helped the team keep from getting too many wounds. Sophie and Ian began to fight me alone, not a good idea. I hit Ian in the back with my tale and he fought Wade after realizing I had more power than he thought. I saw Zero aiming his guns at Sophie and I smiled mentally, I would have to distract Sophie long enough for Zero to shoot her. I figured I would have to keep here in one place and stared at her for a minute while I tried to find a way to keep her there.
She was a teleporter and would move to much for Zero to shoot her and end this. I shifted back to a human and said “I thought you were my friend.” Pain and confusion filled my voice and I saw sympathy fill her eyes. “I am your friend” Sophie answered, the same tone I had in her voice. “A friend wouldn’t have torchered me that way.” I stated, confused. Zero’s sight was compromised and I was left with the charge of killing Sophie.
“It wasn’t my choice to do that, if I didn’t they would have killed Jace.” Sophie tried to explain. Her explanation was in vain because I could see the lie in her eyes. I played along and wrapped my arms around her. She did the same and I quickly half shifted into a wolf and stabbed my clawed hand into her back. She made a choking sound and I felt her heart in my grasp. Her spine was already broke and I was stopping her heart. Her body went limp and I pulled, her heart still in my grasp. Her limp body fell to the ground in a heap in front of me. “You can never trust a liar.” I said looking down at her limp body.
I could hear a roar of anger and turned around to see Ian running in my direction, his eyes burning with anger. I waited for him and shook Sophie’s blood from my hand. I watched as he tried to rap his large, bear paw around my neck. I dodged him and before I could attack him Victor was standing in front of me. “Victor what in the world are you doing?!” I cursed him.
This was my fight and I wasn’t about to let him get in the way. Victor ignored me and pounced on Ian. Ian must have gotten stronger because he was stomping around trying to shake Victor from his back. I watched as Ian smashed Victor into a rock and wasn’t surprised when the rock broke. After multiple failed attempts, Ian shifted into what I think was a bee and escaped Victor’s grasp.
I could hear his wings buzzing and turned in his direction. When I found him I took the form of a jumping spider and jumped. I quickly caught him and held him down as I shifted into a human. I almost smashed him into a grease spot on the grass before I realized to pick him up. I think he started cursing me and I didn’t know why he didn’t shift back into a human.
Ian was strong but he was stupid too. I finally got annoyed of his constant buzzing and closed my hands around him. I could hear his small, weak exoskeleton shatter. I brushed his dead bee body off my hands and looked at the sky. It was starting to get dark and I still had a fire to put out and Jace to bring back.
Before anyone could say anything I took the form of a dragon and flew to the spot Jace was. I didn’t even have to shift back before he brushed my cheek and took the form of his red dragon. We flew over the fire I started and quickly found a lake. The fire hadn’t spread as far as I thought it would and putting it out as a dragon without a bucket was hard enough, but trying to avoid the team just made things harder. It took hours to put the fire out completely.
I needed rest and so did the others, this fight was one of the most draining things I had ever done and I was torched until I was nearly dead so that is saying something. I could tell Jace was getting tired, he didn’t fight much but trying to put out that fire was just as tiring. I noticed he was starting to lose altitude and flew below him. I flew right below him and looked for a clearing for us to rest in.
I found one that was just big enough for us, roared to Jace, and flew down to it. He must have figured out what I was doing because he was following me. I landed and waited for Jace to land too. He shifted back to human and yawned. I gently carved a small hollow in the ground and smiled mentally when Jace had a small pile of sticks in the hole and I gathered bigger pieces of wood to keep it going. I carefully lit the small pile of wood and waited a second before placing all of the bigger pieces of wood on the fire.
I shifted back and asked “Are you hungry?” Jace yawned and said “I think i’m too tired to eat.” I could hear how tired he really was and nodded. I took on the form of a large black wolf and laid down next to the fire. Jace walked over to me and laid down, leaning his head against my side.
I looked at him and laid my head down on my paws when his breathing deepened. I watched the fire and made sure it kept going through the night.
