The sun still hadn't risen and I was as awake as a, well, wolf. The air outside my open window was cooled with an autumn breeze. My room walls were painted dark purple and navy blue. My bed sheets were black, my pillow was navy blue, my carpet was the color of dusk, my ceiling was pinted the color of the moon, and my blanket was the darkest of blood red. I never really need light, I guess its one of my gifts, so the half melted candle stood in its stand unlit as I stood by my bed in my black running shorts and navy blue sports bra. I lowered my self onto my freshly made bed and slid my feet into my dark red ankle socks and slid my now sock covered feet into my untied black and blue running shoes.
Trying to tie my shoes with my long, soft, sleek black hair doesn't really work and gets very irritating. I'm even thinking about cutting it short now. I was finally able to get my shoes tied and chuckled to myself. It has taken under five minutes to get ready to go running, that's a new personal record. I pulled a brush through my long hair and pulled it into a tight ponytail. Following my normal routine, quickly; I pulled my hair into it's normal braid and tied off the end with one of my many black hair ties that I kept on my wrist. I quickly pulled the cascading braid into a tight bun in the middle of my head, concealing the beginning of the ponytail braid in the center of the bun, and tied it tightly into place with yet another hair tie.
I always kept my door open at all times, I know that's not really the smartest thing to do in the world, but hey I live with my mom. I smiled with anticipation and excitement as the air carried the sent of freshly baked muffins and the sound of my mom's voice humming popular Halloween songs; that's another thing about my mom and I, we both love home made double chocolate chip muffins. I grabbed her necklace and stepped out of my room and into the light cream colored hallway that connects my room to the kitchen. The hallway didn't have a light, just like most of the cabin. The only way a room had light was if we had a few candles in it.
Every room in the cabin had at least one candle in it, the hallways; on the other hand; had no candles. The hallways did have windows though and the only light source was the sun or moon. The hallway wasn't very long but it was filled with darkness except for the mouth of the hallway was lit with the candle light from the kitchen. Within a few steps I was standing in the opening of the kitchen, a candle chandler was hanging above the island in the middle of the large kitchen. The kitchen walls were painted white and the counters made of oak wood with pine wood counter tops.
The stove was on the side of the island and it was a gas burning stove and oven, one of the only modern things in the cabin. The other modern things were our cell phones, a computer, and the fridge/freezer. We didn't even have a television set or radio; yeah, yeah, I know, what's a six-teen year old doing without any TV or music? Well that's easy, I'm too busy at Yellow Stone, I help my mom with her job. My mom works with the wild animals at Yellow Stone, the job is amazing.
In fact, just last week I found a very large pack of wolves. In this pack there was about thirty wolves in all. The funny thing is, the alpha treats me as her own pup, she understands that I can't stay there at all times, and she only allows me near her pack. Yes, the leader of the pack is a female, she told me that her mate, the alpha male, was lost to a poacher. I can understand animals; creepy, maybe a little, cool; more like awesome.
My mom had just pulled the fresh muffins out of the oven and placed the hot cast iron pan on a large hot pad that rested on the counter. She bent down, opened a cupboard, pulled out a cooling rack, and placed it on the counter in front of her. She changed tunes and slid the hot muffins out of the pan and onto the cooling rack. I quickly stepped up to the counter and she tossed one of the muffins at me. I smiled and gently caught it in mid air, I laughed "Double Chocolate."
My mom laughed, nodded, picked up a muffin, and started to peel the wrapper from it. I peeled the wrapper from my own muffin, took a bite of it, and set it on the wrapper. "Mom, close your eyes." I smiled. She chuckled, set her muffin on the counter, closed her eyes, and said "You're not going to take a head start are you?" I walked up to her and slid behind her, unclasped the chain to her necklace, lifted it over her head, pulled it close to her neck and clasped the chain.
