Francesca's POV
I don't think I could tell you what a relief it was to wake up at 6am this morning to the sound of that stupid bird. I really don't think there are enough words in my vocabulary to accurately describe the relief I felt rolling out of bed and seeing on the TV that today, the spirits were happy. I put on a plain T-shirt and a pair of jean shorts that hang loose around my thighs alongside my usual pair of boots and head outside.
Ah, summer.
The birds sing and my crops grow. Dust finally came out of hiding, and was more than happy to join me on my chores today.
It was beyond relaxing.
There was a lot of work I had to catch up on, and man, have I never been so grateful for the mundane life I live.
Once I finally catch up on planting my crops, watering them, and attending all my animals, I check my mailbox. There's a single letter inside; it's from Lewis.
"Hey Francesca! Just a reminder that the Luau is today. If you want to attend, arrive at the beach between 9am and 2pm. There's a potluck as well; bring something to put inside. Hope to see you there!"
I reread the letter, pondering over what I could bring. The cheese that I just recently got was of superior quality, so I guess I'll bring that.
It's about 8:50 now; perfect.
As I retie my boots, another wave of calm rolls over me. I am just so calm. Ahh. Relaxation.
I start my walk to the beach, taking the path near Marnie's house. The heat starts to cause a bit of moist on the back of my neck, so I pull my hair up. Once I pass Marnie's house, I notice Leah leaving hers, and I yell to her. It feels like the last time I've hung out with her was forever ago.
"Fran!" She exclaims, picking up her pace to reach me. I smile at her and wave.
She pants. "Man, it's hot out. How are you?"
I grin at her. "Oh. I have never been better." She laughs.
"Yeah, I'm sure you are. All the craziness kind of died down, finally. We can just relax today and eat some soup. You bring anything for the potluck?"
I nod and show her my cheese.
"Ooh. The governor is going to love that," She says, admiring it.
Out of her pocket she pulls a flower, and says that that is what she is bringing. I laugh.
"Hey! Don't laugh! Not all of us are farmers, okay!"
We walk through town and make it to the beach. The music sounds throughout the town.
Once we arrive, I can't help but gasp in awe. There's several large tables completely covered in food, and in the middle of it all, a huge pot that's full to the brim of a bunch of different foods. To our right, there is a mat-like pile of leaves that cover the floor. Robin and Demetrius dance to the loud music.
Lewis stands to the side next to a man I've never seen before. He's dressed in purple and has a grey mustache.
"Hi, Francesca! Glad to see you here! How are you doing?" Lewis asks, politely, and the man, I assume the governor, looks over to me and smiles.
"Ah, so you're the new farmer I've heard about. Nice to meet you," The man says, reaching out his hand. I shake it.
"Good, Lewis, and nice to meet you too!" I respond, smiling, and then the two men continue chatting to each other. I turn back to Leah.
"Alright, I'm gonna go find Elliott, wanna come?" She tells me and I nod. She turns and starts walking towards his cabin. I follow behind, and wave to Pam, who stands on the other side of one of the tables. She grins and waves back.
