Francesca's POV

I think it would be best if I stayed in my bed all day, and never got out or saw anyone, ever, ever again. That way I could never embarrass myself ever again, and there would be no one to be embarrassed around. Yep. That's the only solution, I think.

Without meaning for it to, my mind drifts back to last night.

"Here they come!" Someone shouts. We turn toward the sea, and I can hardly stop a gasp from escaping my lips.

Hundreds of purple glowing jellyfish swarm toward us, appearing right before us with no warning. The water seems to swell with their sudden presence, the sheer mass of them bloating the water and pushing it toward the beach. I feel my mouth gape as I stare off into the massive black ocean, suddenly illuminated to infinity, quiet but not still, cold but not without life.

I don't know how I've gone so long in my life unaware of this beautiful phenomenon that the townsfolk enjoy every year. I look around to them, tearing my eyes away from the sea, to see wonder on each of their faces. A few green jellyfish float lightly toward the main dock, and I hear Jas squeal with delight.

I allow my eyes to drink up the sight to my left before I turn to my right, to Sebastian. He's already looking, and my face flushes.

"This is..." I start, breathless.

"I know. Beautiful," He tells me, and I notice his eyes glance down to my lips. My heart jumps, and he begins to lean in.

Sam's right; I've almost died in this town too many times. Even so, I couldn't imagine being anywhere else. Being back in my old city, not knowing who I am or what comes next. I think, now, for the first time ever, I know what comes next.

I lean in and press my lips against his.

Except it's not his lips that mine press into; it's his cheek, and I, startled, quickly lean back, to see him looking down at the water beneath my feet.

"Woah," He says, surprised. His eyes snap up to mine, shocked. I hear a choking sound, and, mortified, I see Sam and Abby staring down at us from a little ways away on the dock.

I hear Abby mumble, "I know I didn't just see that. Did you see that?"

Sam covers his mouth with his hand. "Yeah. I saw that."

Utterly mortified, I look back to Sebastian, his face red, noticeable even in the dark.

"I-" I start, feeling like I am going to pass out.

No, no no. I have never misinterpreted a situation so badly. He was just looking down at the water by my feet, where I'm sure a jellyfish was. No. No no no no no.

"Fran--"

I shake my head frantically. "Nope. I'm sorry. I--" I laugh, making the situation worse. I start standing up and awkwardly fixing my clothes, my palms entirely covered in sweat.

"No, hey--"

"Nope. That's okay, actually. I'm going to go to Leah and Elliott. No problem. Nope. None at all. Alright. I'll be going now. Thank you--.... for your time."

Before he's even able to respond, I quickly turn on my heel, leaving him shocked, mouth agape. That did not just happen. Nope. Nope. Nope.

I don't look at Sam and Abby as I pass them, but I feel their attention on me. Sam starts to grab my arm but I swiftly dodge it as he mumbles, "Hey, that was a good try-- ouch!". I hear the thump as Abby punches his arm. I'll have to thank her later for that.
