Chapter 07: Just A Cat In Boots!

*Zero's/Xavier's POV*

"Face it, Donkey!" Shrek yelled. "We're lost."

We were trying to find the oak tree where Shrek said King Harold told to him to meet for some 'father and son' morning hunt or whatever, but ended up getting lost. I know these forests in and out, so I know for sure we're heading the wrong way, but what's the fun in telling them the exact direction of where the ol' oak tree is?

"So...why are we here again? And why did we have to wake up at stupid o'clock just to get to wherever we're supposed to be going to?" Willow asked for the nth time.

"We're being the good friends we are to Shrek and helping him get to where he needs to go." said Alice. "Plus, Donkey had politely asked for our help. It would be rude to turn down a request from a friend."

Last night was amazing! I got to dance and sing with Alice. We would have kissed like they show in the musicals when the song finishes, but Queen Thumbelina and King Cornelius interrupted us.

Since then, Alice and I have acted as if last night never happened, but every time I managed to sneak a glance at Alice, she'd start blushing and avoid looking at me. I'm not gonna stand here and deny that she's cute when she laughs, because that's one of the things I love most about her.

I've always felt a connection with Alice somehow.

At first, I thought it was because we're friends which is why we have that sort of connection, but now that I have a good think about it, it feels a lot stronger than that. It feels like our connection has grown stronger after entering this world for some season.

I asked her to dance with me last night, and we ended up singing together because I wanted to test this connection we have.

It was at the end of the song I finally came to realise that the reason this connection between us is strong is because I've fallen for her...and hard.

I've been too nervous to talk about it with her in fear of rejection. I don't exactly have a good reputation when it comes to relationships and women, but this is the first time I've truly ever fallen in love with someone, and to my luck, it's someone I've been friends with for a long time. One out of the two Princesses I've sworn to protect.

Anyway, let's forget about all that and get back on track.

"We can't be lost. We followed the Kings instructions exactly." Donkey pointed out. He walked ahead of us. "What did he say: 'Head to the deepest, darkest part of the woods.' "

"Aye."

"'Past the sinister trees with scary-looking branches.'"

"Check."

Donkey jogged over to a ransom bush. "Yeah, and there's that bush that's shaped like Shirley Bassey!"

"We passed that bush THREE TIMES already!" Shrek yelled.

"Hey, you were the one who said not to stop for directions." Donkey pointed out.

Shrek huffed and rolled his eyes. "Oh, great. My one chance to fix things up with Fiona's dad, and I end up getting lost in the woods with you!"

Willow cleared her throat, grabbing everyones attention. "Um...we're here with you too, ya know?"

Donkey frowned. "Alright, you don't have to get all huffy with me, I'm only trying to help."

"I know!" Shrek yelled. "I know." Shrek stopped walking and looked at Donkey apologetically, making the rest of us stop as well. "I'm sorry, alright?"
