Chapter 11 - Sluts,Manwhores,Alcohol
Emma's POV
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I flew out of my skin at the sound of Zack behind me. I was still shaking like a leaf, lying on the rug as I hopelessly watched Zack laugh like some evil monster above me. Will he ever learn to be normal?
“I hate you!” I yelled, throwing a cushion at his grinning face.
“You know you love me Emma,” he teased sticking his tongue out. I was trying to resist the urge to smile and pull those cheeks out of my Zazzy bears face. I sure have missed him. I quickly got up, fixing myself and sat on my bunk bed right next to where Zack rested. We just sat there for a few minutes as I ruffled his hair.
“Oh! I had to tell you something, but you have to promise not to say no,” he said, suddenly hopping out of the bed. I rolled my eyes at him; it had better not be something stupid.
“Okay, okay. Whatever you say. What is it?” I asked lazily. Knowing Zack, he probably wanted to me to go bungee jumping. This was typical Zack; puppy dog faces, crazy adventures and not to forget, gummy bears!
“I know this isn’t your kind of a thing, but, you know those parties?” He asked innocently, his eyes slowly pooping.
“Sluts-Manwhores-Alcohol, you can count me out,” I said bluntly nodding in disapproval. Parties were never my thing. People grinding themselves against dozens of drunkards, the loud deafening music, definitely not something I’d like. Even with all the puppy dog faces Kylie and Zack would make, I was never going to go.
It’s like I spoke in Greek when I said no. He started pleading like a five year old asking for candy.
“Come on Emma! How do you even know how it’s going to be when you’ve never been to one? It’s not some wild party, there’s just this guy I know who’s throwing one. I promise you’ll enjoy. Kylie’s coming too.”
“Can’t the two of you go like you always do? I just don’t like all of this. And besides, I’m not really in a partying phase. With Gran and-” saying that it just hit me what happened earlier in the morning. I fell into deep thoughts, forgetting Zack was still around.
“What’s wrong? Something happened?” he spoke softly, wakening me.
“Not really. I went to the hospital to clear some of the bills this morning, and Dr. Gavin said that a while after I left, someone came and made all the payments saying I had sent him. I don’t even have this slightest clue on this person could be and how does he even know me. Why would anyone do this?” I said, looking down as I pressed my temples.
“Is there anyone who knew about this…you know….bill issue apart from Kylie and I?”
“Nobody.”
“Well, we could go to the hospital Monday evening and try find something out. You just relax till then. I’ll pick you tomorrow at sharp seven and please, don’t come looking like my mum,” he said with a devilish smirk pasted on his face. I would have caused some serious damage to his brain if he hadn’t run out of the room before I got him.
Great! So now I have a mystery to solve and a stupid party to attend.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Really Emma? This is the best you have? You look worse than someone going for a funeral. Your wardrobe really needs me,” Kylie half screeched-half spoke as she threw every piece of cloth, scattering them in every corner of my already messy room. It was already quarter passed six and I looked worse than a scare-a-crow. Panicked, I looked through the huge pile that grew bigger ever second. Sweats, Tees and Jeans were all I came across. I just sat helplessly, resting my back on the bed as I looked at Kylie still struggling to find something. I had finally convinced myself to go to this party, especially since I found out Marty and Elena were also going to be there. I was almost convinced that I wasn’t going until Kylie barged into my room, arms filled with make -up sets, shoes and some black outfit. She looked happier than a slinky on an escalator. Still biting my nails, I wondered where on earth she had gotten the clothes from. I stood up and grabbed the dress from her and realized it was one she had gifted me about four years ago. I had given it to my sister who you could also call Kylie's twin from another mother. Kylie waved her hand in front of my eyes, pushing me into the bathroom with the dress and shoes she’d picked out.
I could already hear Kylie screaming from outside, waiting for me to get out as I looked at myself in the mirror. Surprised was an understatement of what I felt, I could barely recognize myself. The strapless black dress, hugged my skin tightly, showing all my curves, exposing my legs from way above my knees. With the heels I was wearing, I wasn’t sure I’d even be able to make it to the door. Luckily I did.
The door had barely opened a few inches and Kylie was screaming as she stared at me, open mouthed. “Emma! You look gorgeous! Come on now. Let’s get your face fixed; Zack’s going to be here in less than five.” Without waiting a bit, she pushed me onto a stool, brushed my face with all sorts of makeup, blackened my lids with shadow and let my dark waves hang loosely on my shoulders.
We were outside my apartment in a matter of a few seconds as we waited for Zack. I saw the familiar red Ford come at halt right in front of where I stood.
In his playful voice, he said “Who are you and what have you done with my friend?” I furrowed my eyebrows as he grinned at me. “So you really listened to me when I said don’t look like my mum. But honestly, you look great.”
With that we all sat in his car. The sight of the party could clearly be noticed even from a mile away; bright lights, roaring youngsters, empty can drinks, and earsplitting music. I regretted coming here even before I got of the car. I gave Zack a harsh questioning look to which he responded by dragging me into the house, through the crowds of people. I felt myself get soaked in everyone’s sweat as I made my way into the kitchen through the living room. How could this be fun to anyone? There wasn’t the space of germ between the people dancing. I watched Kylie and Zack dance their way into the crowd as I stood, resting on the counter. Nothing they said would have made me go in there. Tossing Zack’s Keys in my hands, I idly looked around watching all kinds of people in the party, I defined misfit.
Suddenly two familiar faces popped in front of me. “Hey Emma, looking good!” Marty said in her ever excited husky voice. After greeting both of them, we walked towards the bar, still squeezing through the mass as we chatted. I couldn’t have been gladder to find the two of them here; I wouldn’t have survived the next hour if it weren’t for them.
I sipped my Coke as I listened to Elena and Marty discuss some trashy girl’s dress. My eyes fell on the couples making out on the stairs, couches, and platforms, basically everywhere. None of them really looked like they were into each other, it was just lust. Out of disgust, I shifted my sight somewhere else.Nate.
He stood at a corner, holding a beer can firmly in his hands. His hair was messily (combed?) like always, I could trace his toned body through his white shirt which he wore on top of his dark blue jeans. I could see him laugh with some of his other friends that I recognized from earlier. He noticed me stare at him and our eyes met, I eyes remained fixed to his just like his did to mine until I realized just what I was doing. Why did he have to be everywhere I was?
I pretended like nothing happened and joined into a conversion with the girls. My mind was still with Nate, I peeked at him with the corner of my eyes and noticed him coming towards me. In no time, he was standing just a few inches in front of me. My heart rate sped up as I saw him look at me so closely. What was he about do?
