Chapter 6- The dreaded day to work

Emma's POV

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a cloudy, dull evening and it felt depressing and tiresome. The tedious mood endlessly forced me to think about the weird things that had happened today as I sat in the cab, which was smoothly winding itself around the busy streets of California. First, my boss acts shameless, then the window guy works with me and my boss is his dear old father! And if that wasn’t enough to get my eyes look like golf balls, I get a random text from Nate saying he wants to meet me?

With already too much going on, meeting Nate would be last thing I’d want to do, it would only be adding a little more spice to my drama full days.  There was a sudden bump and I slid to the side of the seat, almost bumping my head on the window when I realized I had arrived home. I quickly paid the driver and walked in the living room dropping my bag on my faded, one-sitter couch. Before doing anything else I rang Kylie up, twirling my hair into curls. I waited for Kylie to pick up but apparently she didn’t. I decided to try again later. I was famished so I decided to have a chocolate chip muffin. As I bit the muffin hungrily I turned on the TV flipped the channels. Nothing interesting was on- rather there was nothing that could distract me from thinking about the fact that in a few minutes Nate will be waiting for me in a park. No way are you gonna go to meet him, I told myself.

Impatiently, I walked back to get my phone and rang Kylie. It took her nine rings to finally say hello. In a clam tone, trying not to sound too tensed I said, “Hey Kylie, where are you? I’ve been trying to call you for so long but you won’t pick up!”

“Calm down, calm down. I was taking a shower. Why, Is there anything wrong? Why do you sound so nervous?” Her voice sounded relaxed and tension-free, which was completely in contrast to what I was feeling. I envied how Kylie lived her life, without worrying about anything, which yes, sometimes irritated me.

Avoiding thinking about Kylie’s lifestyle, I said to her in a sad tone, trying to hint her about what I was going through. “Yes, nothing’s right, everything's wrong! Remember the restaurant guy? Well, he-”

Before I could even complete my sentence she interrupted saying, “Ooh that hottie, Nate right? Did you meet him? Did anything… ahem ahem happen?”

“Yes, I met him and no, nothing like that happened, whatever do you mean by that?” I said sounding harsh. I coughed nervously, swallowed and spoke as calmly as I could. “In the morning he was at the restaurant and guess what? He’s a manager there!” Knowing how much excitement that would have brought in Kylie, without giving her another chance to interrupt I continued, “That’s not it, he’s Antony’s son, Can you believe it? He’s that perv’s son.”

“Wait what? Nate’s your boss’s son? What a fail, I tried to hook you up with that oldie’s son. What a shame Kylie, what a shame,” she said, sounding shocked but still so calm.

I sighed and my breath rattled the phone’s speaker. How could she react that way? She’s upset that she couldn’t hook us up together?

“Stop being silly Kylie, that’s not the problem. The problem is that he sent me a text while I was working, saying he wanted to meet me at Avenue park at 5.” I tried to sound desperate in an attempt to make Kylie think seriously for once. It made no difference.

Still in a restful tone she said, “You already gave him your number? Anyways if that’s what you called me to ask, I don’t think it’s a good idea, I mean you’ve only met once or twice and he wants to meet you. What if he’s calling you with a bad intention?”
