Chapter 5- Disclosure on day 1
Emma's POV
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Nice first date, Emma. You totally wrecked it," Kylie said in a giggly tone as we walked towards her car in the parking lot.
Hearing that I became like dry ice in hot water. I stopped walking and replied hurriedly, "First of all, that was not a date and what exactly were you expecting me to do, kiss him on his cheek and call him over for dinner tomorrow?"
I took a deep breath to calm myself down realizing I had just put Kylie in stitches; she was laughing like bubbling champagne! When she finally stopped laughing- not exactly stopped, but was in a state of talking, she said as she began walking, "Yeah, that's exactly what you should have done. He was so into you and you just blew it up by locking your lips."
I just gave her a dirty look and sat into the car. I didn't utter another word. I knew that if I opened my mouth, we'd end up quarreling. But after a while, just to be sure where we were heading, I asked her, "We're going to the hospital right?"
"Yup," she said looking at the side mirror.
We had been silent throughout the whole route; I guess she knew I was not very happy with her and her match-making tactics. We soon reached the gloomy looking hospital. Kylie parked the car in an empty slot and slid out of the car. I got out of the car too and walked hurriedly toward the entrance, Kylie following closely behind me, trying to keep up with my pace. I quickly asked the receptionist if I could meet my gran and she told a nurse to lead us to my gran's ward. When we reached the ward, I glanced through the door's window. Gran seemed to be asleep. I entered silently; I needed a glimpse of grandma's face, her black eyes and her warm body. I sat on the stool besides her bed and Kylie stood behind me. I put my hand on gran's forehead and just then, she opened her eyes.
It looked as though she had to use a lot energy just to open her eyes. She looked at me and gave a weak smile and said, "Emma.........dear."
I held her hands and told her not to speak as she needed plenty of rest; she was as weak as a strand of grass under a cyclone. Kylie then peered over my shoulder to look at grandma, she looked astonished. She whispered in a low tone, "She looks appalling, is she going to be fine?" Kylie had been just as close to grandma as I had so I could understand what she felt like. Just then grandma lifted her trembling hand and put it on my lap. I could feel the warmth and comfort of her hand that I had missed for almost one week now, which felt like an eternity to me. As she slowly and softly stroked my lap she said, "Emma......I want..." she paused then spoke again in the same whispery voice, "You to leave me in Gods hands.........and.....take me home. I'll be fine at home. I miss you very much and this hospital makes me feel depressed."
I knew what she was thinking; she probably didn't want me to make any sacrifices for her but I wasn't going to let her leave her medication and risk her life.
Trying to convince her that I'm taking no trouble for her, I said, "You don't have to worry about anything grandma, everything's normal, the way it used to be."
Kylie smiled at gran, attempting to satisfy her and it worked. Gran smiled back in satisfaction and that was enough for me. I kissed grandma good-bye and rushed out of the ward. It was impossible for me to stop the flow of tears from my eyes.
Kylie dropped me home as I had to get to bed early so that I can wake up fresh for my first day at work tomorrow. I wasn't bothered about the pile of chores I had to do, so without much ado I fell asleep on my bed.
