12: The Bridge

Finally the weekend came. We just got out of college and were going home. Itachi couldn’t come with me home but he said he would come over in the evening. I sighed and finally pulled into the driveway.

“What to do, what to do?” I asked myself.

Akane and Leon went out for the night and I was alone until Itachi came. Nothing seemed to cross my mind so I went to my room and drew. I noticed I ran out of paper but I really didn’t want to go to the store.

It was a while away and I really didn’t want to drive because I was tired. I sighed and grabbed my keys heading to the car. I grabbed an umbrella seeing it was raining and went to the car. I yawned then shook my head.

After thirty minutes of driving I finally got to the store and figured I should get some sweets seeing Itachi really liked them. I smiled to myself and grabbed some chocolate. I paid for my stuff then headed back to my car smiling seeing it cleared up.

On the way home I came across this burning building. I could hear a girl screaming for her mother. I put my hoody over my mouth and ran in trying to find the girl.

“Where are you?!” I yelled into the smoke.

“Here, please help me!” She yelled.

“I’m coming!” I yelled.

I knocked her door down then looked in the room. The girl was curled up in the corner calmly staying low seemingly around 8 years old. She stayed calm which was good. I grabbed her and put my jacket over her.

“It’s good you are calm.” I said to her.

She nodded and stayed silent. I ran through the house trying to find the way out. I finally found the door and got her through it. Right as she went through it the door frame collapsed. I jumped back and a burning board fell on my leg. I screamed out in pain as I got it off.

“Are you alright?” I heard a man say.

“Yeah, a board caught my leg though. I have burns on it and I can’t walk anymore. I think it’s broke!” I shouted to him.

“Aright. Try to get to a safe place until we can get to you!” He yelled back.

“Alright!” I said then looked for somewhere.

I found a window but couldn’t get it open. I sighed and sat with my back against the wall. I found myself growing drowsy. The smoke was getting to me. I screamed as burning boards fell on my legs.

I tried to get them off but the more I struggled the fire crept higher. I succeeded in getting a board off my legs finding I couldn’t move them then something hit my head. The last thing I heard before losing consciousness was glass breaking and something warm coming down my head.

Itachi’s POV

I had a bad feeling. I was getting ready to go over to Miyako’s house and then my phone rang.

“Hello?” I said in my usual monotonous voice.

“Is this Mr. Itachi Uchiha?” The woman on the line said.

“This is him, what is it?” I asked.

“We have a Miss Miyako Saru here at the hospital. You were her first contact in her phone,” the woman said.

“What!” I yelled. “What happened to her?!”

“She tried to save a child from a burning building. She succeeded and is here now in a very bad condition,” they said.

I hung up and called the whole Akatsuki and Akane and Leon to tell them what happened. They met me at the hospital and we asked for Miyako’s room number. I ran there and almost collapsed by what I saw.
