- EAVESDROPPING -

I walked around, stuffing the buns in my mouth and grinning at the sugary taste that exploded in my mouth. It was so delicious. Today, I had taken it upon myself to sightsee. I never got the chance to because I was scared of stepping out, but today was different. I could feel it. I walked around, buying things I hadn't tried before, things that seemed too interesting to ignore. I had even stopped by at the joint Ryth had taken me to a week back to get pepper soup. It was even more delicious than the last time I had it.

I had nearly spent my allowance for the month, buying junk and whatnot and I knew I couldn't call my mother to tell her that, it was something I knew I couldn't stupidly try.

"Hello," A girl said into her phone as I walked past her and I stared hard. I was envious of her lovely possession. The covering of the phone had intricate designs I knew I would love to have.

A cellphone seemed to be common on these grounds. The school was nothing like the County, there were areas for leisure, not all the students were sinful. Or at least, I'd like to believe so. My legs moved me towards another path and I saw students sitting under shades as they read. Some sat alone and others conversed among themselves.

A heavenly scent reached my nose, and I looked around in search of it, it smelt... different. I walked to the spot where students seemed to be on the line before peeping from the boy I stood behind.

Chicken? It was just chicken, but it smelt oddly different, so delicious.

"Elliott! Let's join the line fast." A voice yelled behind me and I stood fixed to my spot, not wanting to turn around.

Her body brushed against mine briefly as she spoke to someone. Her perfume had a tangy scent to it, almost like it was fruity.

"You and your boyfriend sef." She said amidst laughter and I looked back wondering if she was speaking to a girl, but it was only the boy that was there.

The boy had a boyfriend? I wonder what the maidens at convent would say. They would probably cast out whatever demon was possessing the young man while bathing him in holy water.

"Hello." A voice quipped before a pair of hands grabbed my shoulders, I yelped.

"Uh, sorry?" I muttered.

"I'm Steph, why are you eavesdropping?" She questioned.

The boy beside her rolled his eyes as he pulled her hands off me, "Sorry, she forgets how loud she speaks. Pardon her manners." He said to me before turning to the girl. "You better behave or no chicken suya for you."

She scowled before pouting, "I'm sorry."

I smiled in embarrassment before shaking my head, "It's okay."

I stepped out of the line and made my way to leave when a voice stopped me, "You're leaving? I really am sorry."

"No, no, it wasn't your fault or anything. I just have some things to do." I lied through my teeth, mentally noting the number of Hail Mary I'd have to do.

"Oh, see you around then." She smiled, waving at me, and I waved back.

I sighed as I walked towards the park, looking for somewhere to sit. I saw a figure walk up to me before relaxing when I saw it was Ryth.

"Hey, you. Where have you been?" She asked as she hugged me.

"Around," I replied, not giving too much information because I knew she'd drag me back to the joint for her share.

"Hm. Let's sit together." She clapped happily before dragging me to a table with her.

Upon getting to the table, I saw them. The girl and the two boys I had seen in the abandoned yard on my first day. I gulped. I looked down immediately when I saw the girl smirking and the boys whispering among themselves.

"Stop whispering, share." Ryth pouted as she sat down and dragged me down with her.

It involved a lot of dragging with Ryth. She believed it was the best way to do things while I worried about my hand getting ripped out of its socket.

"It was her." One of the boys pointed at me while I looked down, my eyes straining on the blue marks the table had on it. He was the one I had shared my class with, and there was still something so intimidating about him.

"Her that did what?" Ryth dumbly asked.

"The other day at the yard. She walked in on us." The other boy said, and I watched Ryth's eyes widen as she looked at me.

"Theresa was the girl?" She guffawed, her hand slapping hard against the table, which got people looking at us.

"Your name is Theresa? Quite fitting." The boy said, his voice dripping with sarcasm while I rolled my eyes and picked out my books.

"Aw, don't be a wet sock, Theresa. We're all friends, it's not so embarrassing once you get your mind off it." Ryth comforted me as she hugged my shoulders.

"Whatever," I mumbled as I dug my face into my book.

It felt like hours when I had started reading, completely blocking them out as I studied only to feel eyes on me. I looked up with my brow raised, staring at the boy in front of me before my ears tuned into their conversation and I felt the tips of my ears get hot as I did.

"Did you like it?" Ryth asked, leaning over the table in curiosity, and I looked at the girl too.

"Well, I don't know why you haven't tried it even when you were the one that mentioned it to me. But it was good, fair I guess."

"S-showerheads?" I stuttered.

They grinned.

"What was that?" He teased with a wicked grin.

"What was that about showerheads?" I asked again, my voice clearer.

"Won't you like to know?"
