Percy's P.O.V

I drove slowly down the road, searching for any sign of Zephyr or the monster he'd mentioned. There was a flash of movement of someone darting down an alleyway and I got out of the car to investigate. As I turned around the corner into the alleyway I saw 2 teenagers with their backs against the wall, the older blonde one with his arms wrapped protectively around the girl. Zephyr stood bravely in front of them. Between me and them was a Chimera. I realised with a cold chill that this was my dream, becoming a reality. I slowly crept towards the Chimera, trying to keep quiet so it didn't notice me until I was close enough to attack. The three of them were too distracted by the Chimera about to kill them to notice me.

Zephyr was weaponless, the double bladed sword he usually fought with on the floor, out of his reach. He mustered up all of the courage he could and said in an attempt at a brave voice "Leave me and my friends alone, and I won't have to send you back to Tartarus!" It came out more like a frightened squeak.

The Chimera hissed in contempt and with a flick of its snake tail, it bit his calf. He stumbled backwards, gasping for breath, and fell to his knees.
I was now close enough to strike and I reached into my pocket for Riptide. It was then that I realised what an absolute idiot I was.
I was in my pajamas. My pajamas didn't have any pockets. Which meant that I didn't have a weapon.

The Chimera stalked closer to Zephyr and I yelled out "Hey!"

The Chimera whirled around, growling at me and my mind worked desperately to come up with a plan. Before I could think of anything, the Chimera pounced.

So this is how I die. I thought. After everything I've seen and done, after all the monsters I've fought and defeated. I'm killed by a Chimera at 3 in the morning in Queens in my pajamas.
I just hoped that my death would provide enough of a distraction for the others to escape.

Out of nowhere, a red figure swung across the alleyway and kicked the Chimera in the chest, sending it crashing into a brick wall. The figure landed beside me and I recognise the outfit.

"Spider-Man?" There was no time to question anything or get my head around what was going on. The Chimera was already stumbling back to its feet. I took the opportunity to run and pick up Zephyr's sword. It was too light compared to Riptide and the double blades were disconcerting, but it would do for now.

"Zephyr, you two, get out of here. I'll deal with this." I nodded to Lucas and the girl. She looked around 12, but uninjured. Lucas had a vicious looking claw mark across his back. Zephyr was sort of herding them around the Chimera and out of the alleyway, placing himself between them and it.

Spider-Man fired another web at the Chimera and it hit his muzzle. He ran up the wall and did a back flip over the back of the Chimera, landing on the other side of it. The web wrapped around its jaws, holding them shut and preventing it from breathing fire.

"If you want to help, get them out of here!" I shouted "You can't fight this monster, you're a mortal!"

The Chimera struggled against the webs, and his tail struck out, narrowly missing Spider-Man who just barely managed to jump out of the way.

Lucas and the girl were almost at the end of the alleyway but Zephyr's left leg gave way and he fell to the ground. Some stones scrambled beneath his feet and caught the Chimera's attention. It pawed a hoof at the ground and charged down Zephyr.
Spider-Man ran to pull him out of its path while I leapt up and grabbed one of it's horns. I pulled down with all of my strength and the Chimera's head tilted to the left enough to pull it off its path and it rammed its head into the wall.

Spider-Man had slung Zephyr's arm over his shoulder and was helping him limp away.
I lunged at the Chimera.
I barely scratched it but it was enough to get its attention. It roared at me and I ducked just in time as a pillar of fire swept over my head, singeing my hair. I rolled to one side and jabbed at its side, causing it to roar out in pain. It tried to snap at me but I stayed just out of its reach.

Things were going well until I tried to slash at its neck. That was my first mistake. I'd forgotten from the last time I fought it, but the Chimera had a thick metal collar protecting its neck. The sword ricocheted off, jarring my shoulder. I stumbled backwards, trying to regain my footing. My second mistake was focusing solely on the lion head and forgetting completely about the snake head. I jumped backwards to avoid the lion's snapping jaws and landed within the snake's reach. It whipped around and sank its fangs into my side. Hard. I span round and brought my sword down where its neck had been - do snake have necks?! - but it had already retracted. It struck again, biting my shoulder, and it was then that the pain hit. My whole arm was burning with pain and I could feel the deadly poison making its way to my heart. I feebly tried to jab one last time at the Chimera but the snake wrapped around my legs and pulled me hard down to earth. I smacked my face on the ground and blood spurted from my nose. I remembered the last time I'd had a nose bleed. That didn't end so well.

I didn't have the strength to get up and it was only a matter of time before the poison killed me.
