Before I got up, I noticed Pauline's bookbag behind her and almost asked what it was for. I decided not to. I don't know why I didn't just ask, but I just didn't. Pauline appeared in front of me. "The doors are opening," she said, "Come on." I walked over to the now- opened doors and looked down. That. Was a long drop. Before I knew what was happening, Pauline was winding the rope around me, then pulled it tight. I braced myself, waiting for her merciless push. But it didn't come. Phil and Kevin were busy talking about politics. Pauline spun me around. Our noses were inches apart. Pauline looked into my eyes. I looked into hers. They looked like beautiful blue gems. Then.... she kissed my cheek. At that moment, I fully realized that I really like her, but I didn't know she felt the same. It was amazing. My heart soared. "Bye," she said soothingly, "Good luck!" And with that, Pauline pushed me off the edge.

Panic filled me. I tensed every muscle in my body and screwed my eyes shut. I felt a shaky tap on my shoulder and opened my eyes. Pauline dived out of the helicopter with me! Then, I realized what her bookbag was for. I relaxed my body a bit, but at that moment, we hit the water. All of this happened within a split second. Mr. Martin's and Kevin's screams could be heard twenty feet below the water's surface. Pauline grasped my hand and I squeezed hers. Our backpacks were weighing us down and I realized we were running out of air. We were so deep my ears popped hard three times. Finally, the flash appeared. I tried to squirm towards it, but nothing was working. I couldn't use my arms or legs. Darkness started overtaking my vision. I knew I was passing out. I needed oxygen. I needed air. We needed air.
