Quickly, Charles gripped his bow and loaded five Arrows onto the string. In the blink of an eye, he shot all five of them in the mens' necks. I heard Charles yell, "Run for that door!" I grabbed Pauline's hand and pulled her towards the door. It was just ten feet away. Once we got to it, I pulled on the handle. "Locked," I growled and yanked at it. Pauline tried it. She jerked at it with panic. Soon, it opened right up. We ran in and slammed the door shut behind us. We waited inside for a second, catching our breath, then remembered that Middleton, Williams, and Charles were still outside. Quickly, we let them in.They walked in. "They're all dying." Middleton said matter-of-factly. "We must go to the Secure Conference Room to converse with the others." Williams chimed in. "Yes sir!" Middleton and Charles said together.
Following the three men, Pauline and I dragged our tired feet through the halls as fast as we could. "Turn left," Williams would demand. Left, right, left, right, right, left, right, left, left, right, left, left. It seemed to go on forever. Finally, we came to a set of doors at the end of a hallway. Middleton pushed the doors open and gestured for us to go in. By now, my legs hurt. Pauline and I walked into the room. It was filled with people bustling around a huge table with dozens of chairs. There was even a long table off to the side piled high with fresh food, and coolers filled with sodas, juices, and other beverages.
"Williams," Middleton exclaimed, "Escort Eliot and Martin to their rooms; they need rest." "Yes sir!" Williams assured. He practically dragged Pauline and I through a door near the right corner of the room.
Behind the door was a short hallway. On either side of the hallway, there was a door across from the other. Williams pointed to the left door. "Martin," he said, "That's your room. Everything you need is in there. Same for you on the right side, Eliot." Before we let ourselves into our rooms, Pauline and I waved at each other and smiled. "Wait," I called to Williams, "What is this place?" "This place is called Base: BXY-2." He replied. I thanked him and went into my room. It was a big room. A queen-sized bed, a bookshelf, a TV, Xbox console, and a full bathroom. I was exhausted, so I undressed and crawled into bed. It only took a few seconds for me to drift off into a deep sleep.
