Traveling Towards Home

We looked in the direction that we came. More men in camouflage holding guns ran from the trees towards the lake's shoreline led by none other than Mitchell. The machine gun in the helicopter began firing at the men. I saw five drop dead in a span of five seconds. After that, everything was a blur.
We heard splashing and rowed as fast as we could to shore. As soon as we got there, the helicopter landed right in front of us. Guns fired and I could hear screams of agony from men who had been shot but not killed. I helped Pauline run towards the helicopter. Ralph towards the helicopter when Gwen fell down with a pained groan. "Ow!" She yelled. I could see Charles manning the machine gun. He rushed down to quickly lift Gwen off the ground and carry her to the helicopter. I was focused on keeping Pauline down and away from the bullets as best I could. Charles helped us into the helicopter, fired a few more shots, and then we were off. He shut the door. Everyone was breathing heavily and Gwen looked like hell. Her face was all scrunched up. She was lying on her stomach. A bullet wound was on the underside of her thigh. It looked like a bloody hole in her leg. Charles tore a sleeve off of his jacket to wrap around it. Gwen grimaced as he did so.
Finally, Charles sat back. Williams was piloting the helicopter and Middleton was sitting in the passenger seat. "You kids alright?" Middleton turned around to ask.
"Not exactly." I replied. The gash on my head began throbbing. I reached up to my head to touch it and my hand came back bloody. Charles handed me a small handkerchief. I accepted it and wiped my head. I took off my backpack and helped Pauline take off hers. "Does your leg feel any better?" I examined. "No," she told me, "I think it's worse." "We're trying our fastest to get to Base: CXY-3's hospital. We'll be there in no time." Middleton turned back around in his seat and spoke into a radio, "Middleton to Rosenbaum we have a broken leg, head wound, and a bullet wound. Repeat, we have a broken leg, head wound, and a bullet wound. Over." I heard Rosenbaum's voice over the radio, but I couldn't make out what she said. "Who is that?" Williams asked Middleton. "I'm not sure." He replied. "That's Gwen." I spoke up, "She almost drowned. We had to help her." Middleton nodded. He looked irritated. Pauline dragged her backpack behind her and used it as a pillow. Gwen crossed her arms on the floor and rested her head on them, as if she was sleeping in class. I leaned against the wall and thought. When Charles had said, 'we'd be there in no time,' I didn't know that "no time" meant four and a half hours. I burrowed through my backpack and grabbed out my phone and its solar charger and plugged it in. I still didn't have any reception so I just played Geometry Dash for awhile. Ralph slept in a corner away from everyone else. Then I just waited for the helicopter to land. And at one point, I apparently fell asleep. I was awakened for the third time by Middleton, who helped me out of the helicopter. I don't really remember anything after that except that I heard crying.... I thought the voice seemed familiar. I was too tired to figure it out.
I couldn't tell if I was moving or not. It felt like it, but I wasn't sure. The next time I woke up, I was in a hospital bed right next to the one Pauline was in.
