"Congratulations, Doctor Baez!"
Napatingala agad ako mula sa pagkakatingin sa tablet ko nang marinig ang boses ni Maxine. I immediately rolled my eyes at her.
She was widely grinning as she walked towards me, ang ganda at fresh pa niya sa white coat niya. Buti pa sila na sa laboratory lang namamalagi, fresh.
"Thanks," I proudly smirked at her.
She scoffed before sitting on my visitor's chair. "I heard that was a tough operation but you still did it," nakangiti nitong sabi. "Damn that's your fifth na ah as a resident. I'm so proud of you, bb!" she said with so much amusement in her voice.
Napangiti agad ako sa sinabi niya. "Thank you. It was so fulfilling to be a part of that operation. Saving that child from her broken leg felt wonderful," masaya kong pagkwento kay Max.
"Halata nga sa mukha mo," she smiled again at me. Maxine then reached for my face to cupped my cheeks. "Buti nalang nakikita kitang masaya everytime may natutulungan kang tao. I can't wait for you to be genuinely happy again."
The smile in my face immediately faded, nalungkot na naman ako bigla. Bumuntong hininga nalamang ako para itago iyon. I rolled my eyes and shook my head at Maxine.
"Ewan ko sayo, pupuntahan ko na nga lang si Archie. May sasabihin daw sa akin yon eh," I changed the topic. Nilayo ko na ang mukha ko sa mga kamay niya at tumayo para isuot ang white coat ko.
"Okay, sure. I gotta deal with my walang kwentang colleagues, too, in the lab. See you later," she stood up to give me a kiss on the cheeks and then she left.
Bumuntong hininga muli ako bago lumabas ng Doctor's office para puntahan si Doctor Archie, isang pediatrician, na kapwa pinoy din namin.
He messaged me earlier to go to his office kasi may pag-uusapan daw kami. And I know what he wants to talk about.
I smiled as I saw him writing in his office desk, kumatok agad ako bago pumasok. Napangiti din siya nang mapatingala siya at makita ako.
"Okay, spill it," I immediately said as I sat on his visitor's chair.
"May desisyon ka na ba sa offer ko?" he meaningfully smiled at me.
Sinasabi ko na nga ba. Ito na naman. But I was hoping earlier na hindi ito ang tatanungin niya.
