Betrayed

Kate stared in disbelief as the slayers boxed them in and cursed, "Max betrayed us, and we don't have our weapons."

Tul pushed her behind him and replied in a voice laced with rage, "we don't need them" and for the first time in over five decades, bared his fangs and extended his claws.

The sight of an alpha Wamphyri in full warrior mode caused the four slayers to hesitate for a split second, but soon they raised their swords and ran towards him shouting their battle cries.

Just as they reached the Wamphyri and his thrall, a thick darkness surrounded the pair and they disappeared. The slayers looked around in bewilderment as they sheathed their swords.

Tul and Kate hit the pavement of the tarmac hard as Saint dropped them out of the void. Looking around in confusion, Tul saw Saint crawling towards the shadow of the jet. Realizing he was too weak to make it on his own, Tul rose quickly and pulled him effortlessly into the shade.

Kate ran up the steps of the jetway while shouting for Knox. Once inside, she grabbed three bottles of water and practically jumped down the steps to reach Saint. Kneeling beside him, she opened one of the bottles and began pouring the liquid into the Shadow's mouth while encouraging him to swallow.

Knox bounded down the jetway with the AR-15 he had stashed in the cockpit, "what happened?" he shouted.

Pulling angrily on her jacket to straighten it, she replied "Max set us up. If Saint hadn't pulled us out of there..."

Saint interrupted her, "Max didn't betray you."

"The fuck he didn't" shouted Kate.

Tul gave her a look that conveyed the message to stand down and watch her language. He hated profanity – even when it was warranted.

"He didn't" insisted Saint, "he had no idea what was happening. When he tried to stop them, they locked him in a room."

"You have to go get him" ordered Tul, "before they do something to him."

"They won't hurt him" responded Saint, "and I can't bring him into the void until I regain my strength. Getting the two of you out weakened me quite a bit."

"So, the traitor was Ronan" spat Kate, still angry – but more in control.

"I don't think so" answered Saint as he twisted the top off another bottle of water, "he seemed surprised also."

"Somebody betrayed us" scowled Kate.

Knox looked into the distance, and clicked the safety off the AR-15, "I think I know who."

Tul, Kate and Saint followed his line of sight and saw the darkness approaching as all three mumbled "fuck" under their breath.
