"Good morning class. Can you believe it's already the middle of our first week back?" Iris, my art teacher and Luna's mom, beams at us. Half the guys groan. I smile at my table mates. Chloe and Althea. "Over the next five days, you will be working in your table groups to make a mobile of their choosing."

"If you need inspiration there are 3 mobiles hanging from the rafters." Iris points at the back corner, where three mobiles are hanging.

I reach into my backpack and pull out a sketching pad. Spencer gave it to me for my 13th birthday. It was a good birthday. I lay out the sketchbook for us to place ideas on. "How do you feel about origami?"

Althea and Chloe grin.

Ooh, this may be the best project ever! They nod. They spout out ideas for origami. I quickly place a few of them on my paper. Iris tears our attention from our ideas to the boys near the back. "I suggest you start brainstorming now rather than later."

We turn our attention back to the paper where Althea sketched a small bird. A crane I believe. It's very pretty. Her sketch is beautiful. "What if we make dozens of cranes?"

Althea looks up. Chloe stops talking. "I once read a book about 10,000 cranes and how it's supposed to bring good luck or peace of some sort."

"We can't just do cranes. We'll need something to break them up...what about 3D diamonds?" Chloe offers.

"I like that." Althea smiles.

What of the colours? What coloured paper should we use? "What about the colours?"

"Purple!"

"Blue!"

"...Rainbow?" I slowly mention the rainbow as it has both purple and blue. The pair grins agreeing on the colours. Chloe quickly writes out all we've discussed.

Over the next 45 minutes, we decide on the order of the rainbow cranes. How far apart they will be. Where we will place the diamonds and what the top of the mobile will look like. When we finish brainstorming the bell rings.

On my way up I nearly knock my crutches over. That reminds me I have a check-up with Apollo tonight. My leg itches like crazy and it's not going away like he said it would. Gods why did Lacey have to be such a brat. Does she really hate me?

Next Day

When I get to class Iris is painting on an easel. From the door, I can make out a swan a perhaps an outline of a pond. I make my way to my table and set up. A couple of minutes later Althea and Chloe join me. We greet each other with wide smiles.

Chloe brings out the plan and we get to work. I grab my crutches and head for the back. "Pearl, where are you going?"

"To grab a hoop and wire for the mobile."

Althea nods. She and Chloe go back to finding an easy video on how to make origami cranes. At the back, I search through a cabinet labelled hoops. The cabinet is hip height. I easily find a large hoop. Around the size we want. I turn to go back to the girls but fishing wire catches my eye.

Ooh, we'll need that. I grab that too.

Once back with the girls we begin making cranes. Even though the video is step by step, we do poorly. My first crane is a disaster. It looks more like a folded or maybe crushed paper. All our cranes are terrible. Near the end of class, Iris comes around to our table. She asks how we are doing.

"It's going..." Althea holds up a crane. Iris smiles.

"I'm looking forward to seeing it."
