Callias' Pov
"Callias Antoni Glaros," A woman with shoulder-length medium brown hair dressed in a pants suit blocks the aisles exit. The library should be quiet this time of day. Almost abandoned. She looks familiar. How do I know her? "You've met my children. That's how you know me,"
A goddess. "You are?"
"Athena, goddess of wisdom and war, you know me from Pearl, Adagio and Medora," That's who she looks like. Not in the conventional sense. More so in how she holds herself. It's subtle. Not overbearing. Small things that make sense. "Which is who I'm here to talk to you about,"
Oh.
"I assume you know which daughter I mean," Athena states stalking closer. She stops three feet away from me. I see where the sisters get their self-assurance from. It's bluntly obvious. Medora doesn't ooze it like Pearl and Adagio. She has a more subdued presence. Likely years of practice and settling. Especially after father went mad.
Athena grabs a book and begins browsing its pages. Front to back. It's a book on the immortals of Greece. The minor deities. So not her. "Your father now that the spell Poseidon had cast upon her has broken will find her and her sense of reality will skew. If this comes from you she will have a sense of grounding. She's always needed a rock to ground her. Something she gets from Poseidon,"
"Why should I tell her? Why not you or Poseidon?"
I'm not exactly a somebody. Nor am I a nobody. My father is the greatest hero from ancient Greece. Or so the books say.
Athena puts the book in my hands. She stares me in the eye. An effective way of captivating. A way of making a point clear. Through emotion. "If Heracles does it she will break. Lose control. She's only just found her footing since that night. Think of it this way, the last time she saw Heracles she beheaded him,"
Athena begins walking, taking long strides.
"Before that, she went on an uncontrollable warpath. She slaughtered thousands. If Heracles breaks her sense of peace that could happen again. If it comes from a familiar face it may not," She takes another book off a shelf. This time it's a book on Heracles. I only know it from when I read a page last week. Out of pure curiosity.
Athena skims to a page then snaps it closed. She places the book on top of the first. "There is no guarantee that she won't but it will be less likely,"
"And if she does blow up, what happens after that? Will she hate me?"
"That is up to her, but I have a sense her opinion on you will not waiver. Still, you should tell her before he gets the chance. Do it before it's too late Callias. It's better than living a fool's dream," Athena says picking another book off a shelf and placing it on my small stack. The tale of Medora and Heracles. The fated couple. "You know I'm right. And you know you should tell her."
I suppose she's right. But what if she's wrong and Megan—
"Callias?"
I jump.
Isaac. Gods. My friend chuckles. He got me. And he knows it. "Who were you talking to?"
I turn back to Athena, but she's nowhere to be seen. How ambiguous. But what did I expect? That conversation was private.
"It's a long story."
_____"Man I'm telling you, holding secrets from a goddess will only lead to disaster. Trust me I have a sister and when I tell you not telling her something is detrimental," Wait Cecrops has a sister? How did I not know that? I've known him for how many years? At least five. Gods some friend I am.
