Pearl's Pov

"Do you think we will be finishing the ballad in music or will we take another turn with Apollo telling us how the lyre was made... again." I try to pick Luna's brain.

Luna's head snaps up. Pasta sauce drips from the corner of her mouth. "I don't know what your class has been doing but we finished that yesterday."

"Gods above, he talks and talks in mine and yet with yours he teaches." I groan, shoving pasta into my mouth.

Adagio can hardly keep from snickering. "Ya ya, quit your snickering. He's your Father." Adagio sobers up and flicks my head. I rub said spot and roll my eyes. So childish.

"I'm glad I don't have music this semester." Adagio states. Is Apollo really that bad? Sure he yammers on and on. Not to mention his accomplishments. But it's not like he doesn't give credit where credit is due.

He loves talking about his children. Adagio is one of them and he loves talking about her accomplishments. I guess he can be exhausting. I wouldn't know. I rather enjoy Apollo's entertainment. Although I'm not sure how much he talks about is useful.

"It's refreshing not having to see my father every day." Adagio smiles. We laugh at the silly concept of Apollo being refreshing. He's more of an overexposed light bulb. We take our time finishing our lunches.

"Today we will be performing a simple spell. This spell is one used by many on a daily basis." Lugh opens his book and pulls up the spell. "The base of this spell is converting a heavy object, like an anvil into something lighter."

"Like a feather!" Andrew yells out.

"Not quite," Lugh smiles. "This is a little more complicated than that. We are displacing the weight of the anvil and making it just as light as the feather. We are not changing the anvil into a feather."

Lugh holds up an anvil and places it on the desk. He invites some students to lift it. None of the students are successful. Lugh gestures for them to sit back down so he can show us how it's done. He picks the anvil up with one hand. He does it like it's made of feathers.

Our mouths are left gaping.

"How?"

"Simple, I used the weight displacement spell." Lugh places the anvil back on the table and writes an enchantment on the whiteboard. "Repeat after me."

Most of us say the spell correctly. Grins are seen all around. Lugh then has us lift the anvil by ourselves with the spell. I line up before Lacey and after Andrew a guy Isaac knows. While in line Lacey pesters me with discouragement. When it's my turn I say the enchantment perfectly and lift the anvil over my head.

I grin as Lugh congratulates me. My victory is short-lived. On my way back to my seat a deep ache blossoms in my right leg. It starts just above my ankle. I crumple to the ground and clutch my leg. Lugh roughly takes Lacey's hands off the anvil and covers her mouth.

But it's too late, a sickening snap deafens my ears. I clamp down on my lips to keep from screaming. Lugh asks for a volunteer to take me to Apollo.

"I'll take her to Apollo's clinic!" Athos volunteers. He's an immortal who lives under Adagio, Luna and I. His dorm mates are Elora, Hermione and Isaac the son of Athena.

I've never really talked with Athos. He seems nice. Athos wraps an arm around my waist and one of my arms around his neck. Once out of the class, I ask why he volunteered to take me.

"Julia tells me Isaac doesn't stop talking about you and I like Julia so if I do this good thing I hope she will at least give me a chance."

"Well, thanks." Athos' eyes widen and he almost missteps. That would have been disastrous!

"I'm not just doing this for Julia, I do like you and I'm a nice person..." He begins rambling and it's kinda funny. Who knew teasing him would be fun. "I'm digging myself a hole aren't I."

"Yes, you are." I laugh at Athos' freaked expression. "I'm only teasing. It helps with the pain."

He relaxes and smiles. It doesn't take us too much longer to reach the clinic. When we arrive, I'm whisked away from Athos. I'm taken to a check-up room. Covered with pictures of Apollo and many doctors. Perhaps his children.

After what feels like hours Apollo waltzes in. I immediately feel slightly better. I wonder if he affects all people in pain like this? Gods... Get it together girl. He gives me a bright smile. I wearily return it.

"Ah, Pearl. I was wondering when I might find your clumsy body in my clinic."

"Thanks..."

Apollo places a hand on my good ankle. The pain in the other leg lessens to a deep throb. Honestly, I'm not sure what hurts more the throb, or sharp pain. "No problem,"

"Let's see what predicament you find yourself in."

"I can tell you that. Lacey broke my leg."

"Oh."

"That would be an easy fix, but this was caused by magic, correct?" I nod. Apollo glances down to my leg swelling can be seen under my jeans. I know calves are not supposed to be different sizes. But my gods mine are.

"If it was a normal break I could just fix it but magic was involved so I will have to set it and let it heal on its own." My face must have fallen as Apollo hands me a lollipop. He knows I'm not 5. I accept it anyways. "This will hurt. So I'm going to put you under. When you wake you will have a cast."

Apollo gives me one more smile before touching my forehead. I go out like a light.
_____

It only feels like seconds till I wake again, but I know more time has passed as I have a cast on my leg. It's a light blue colour starting at my foot and making its way up to mid-calf.

"Ah, you're awake." Apollo leans over me and helps me sit up. He hands me a set of crutches and has me stand so he can adjust the height. "There. I'd say good as new but we can in a few months."

"Thank you."

"Not a problem. I will see you tomorrow afternoon in class." Apollo leads me out to the main foyer of the clinic.

Apollo runs me through how I may feel over the next few days. He gives me a bottle of pills to take for the next month. He tells me when I run out to have Megan bring it to him to refill.

"Have a good day Pearl."

I wave before heading very slowly back to class. It takes forever to get to the magic classroom. By the time I get there the class is empty and I am panting like a dog. Gods how is this so much work? I didn't think I was out of shape.

Inside Lugh is cleaning up. "Lugh?"

"Pearl, how are you feeling?"

"Oh you know slightly queasy but it will pass."

Lugh nods. He feels bad about what happened. I'm still not sure how I feel. That may change when I see Lacey. "I came for my backpack, that is if you still have it."

"Athos took it to your dorm." I nod and say goodbye. I head for Lancaster. It takes nearly double the usual time to reach my dorm. By the time I get there I am panting again. Sweat drips down my back. It's uncomfortable.

Inside Adagio, Luna and Isaac are sitting at the kitchen table. They must be waiting for me. Achilles is the one to point me out. My three friends rush over with questions. Isaac is kind enough to lead me over to the table. He even gives me his chair.

"Alright! Alright! Before I tell you what happened can I have some water? It took forever to get up the stairs."
