Lydia ~~
"Where to begin....hmmm. First calm yourself, it can wait."
I heeded her words, sat next to her on the bed, hands clasped between my knees and my eyes plastered on her beautiful wrinkled face. She smiled and after a few moments she continued
"Our ways are similar to many medieval ways on Earth. There is no electricity, no cars, the government is much akin to a King and earls and land owners, mayors and so forth. Where we lack in science related things few of us have magic. And yes I know, "magic isn't real", but soon you will see that it is all too real."
She took a moment to gather her thoughts and I took the moment to scan the room more thoroughly . Herbs and spices lined the wall above the hearth, there was a counter and sink below a window, and off to the right of what can be considered the kitchen/dining room area stood rows upon rows of different ingredients of many things.
"You were brought here Lydia, to learn our ways, take my place, and figure out how to save those few people that remain from the beast."
My eyes connected with hers once again and I asked
"What or who is this beast?"
A sad smile parted her face and for a moment silence hung in the air.
"You will learn that with magic there are also creatures that would be considered mythical in your world. The beast is a Lycathrope, he was once King over this world, he secretly worshipped Sol, thinking that the worship of Luna, the "mother" was weak. He slaughtered all who opposed him, sent his men to destroy the temples and defile and kill the priestess that were there. He sent out his men to slaughter all human men, to enslave all women, and to make sure that their offspring knew their places beneath the Lycans. That all changed when Julian raised an army and dethroned him. Once Julian was King he instated his closest friend Marcus as his Beta, but the lands are vast so he made a Lycan named Caden a Beta as well and divided the nation among the lords to look after. He gave the humans back their freedoms and made sure we were treated well. There are still plenty of beasts out, Lycan's who serve Sol, and they would kill you if they learn of you."
She took a deep breath and looked as though she was going to pass out from exhaustion.
"Alaina let's got to sleep, we can always pick this up tomorrow, it's not like I'm going anywhere anytime soon."
She chuckled and let me escort her across the room to her bed. Once she was comfortable I made my way to, what is now my bed, and stared out the window.
"She will guide you Lydia, she has chosen you."
With that she was soon snoring and I continued glaring at the moon.
Why me? Why was I here? I'm a nobody, my children were grown enough that they didn't need me anymore, my husband left months ago to be with his new flavor of the month. I was nothing but an old broken woman who just wanted to enjoy what little comforts I had left. Soon my eyes grew heavy as exhaustion and anger pulled me into sleep.
I was walking along side a gorgeous man, dark hair that reached his shoulders, dark green eyes that showed all in his path he was not one to mess with. I find myself looking up to him, his height and build towering over my small frame. He had to have been close to 7ft tall, I'm 5'5 and I feel like a dwarf. We come to an ornately carved door and I follow him in. It seems as though him and his companion can not see me. His companion sits behind a desk, his deep baritone voice calling for wine.
"Sit Marcus, tell me what brings you so far from your home. There isn't any more rivalries is there? I've had enough playing babysitter."
The man smiles at Marcus who shakes his head no, humor touching his perfectly sculpted face.
"My King I come bearing news, the cities to the south of Caden's lands claim that Luna has erupted basking all in her light, saying she has brought forth someone into this world. I have sent my men to him all the towns and villages to find truth in this, but I'm here to ask permission to speak with the seer."
Before the King can respond in walks a gorgeous blonde woman, lithe but curvy and full bosomed. Her fluid grace makes her that more appealing as she glides to the Kings side. I can feel the emotions coming from Marcus...hurt, anger, jealousy, a feeling like the woman was to be his before her betrayal.
"Ahhh my Queen" says the kings accepting her kiss. His eyes flash quickly to Marcus who doesn't see as his eyes are turned downward to show respect for their affection. A hurt smile lights the kings face, with how Marcus is reacting.
"Of course, go ask her your questions she is in the tower".
Marcus utters his thanks and leaves refusing to make eye contact with the Queen. This whole conversation I have been hovering back to observe, not sure why I am here. As Marcus walks past me he stops, takes a step back and turns to look me right in the face. I hear his inhale of breath and see his eyes expand as he sees me. He slowly looks me over from head to toe and with narrowed eyes he says
"I see you witch, now I know you are here. I will find you."
Even though it was whispered the King still heard and his head whips from the affection of the woman to finally look at me.
I woke sweating, my heart beating a million miles a minute and the moon shinning down upon me. I laid back down trying to catch my breath. Why did that dream feel so real?
"Because it was not a dream. Luna let you walk the moon paths to where she thought you needed to be.
Stir up the fire child and I'll get tea going, then I want you to tell me everything."
After the tea was done I recalled what I had "dreamed". Alaina was quiet for so long I thought she had dozed off.
"So Marcus and the King saw you."
Her voice startled me and I let out a squeak, she chuckled as I nodded.
"It seems that Luna has a need for you to meet them, but it is too soon, what is she thinking."
She lets out a big sigh and then looks at me.
"I was wanting to teach you slowly all that I know, but it seems as though we don't have that much time, maybe a few years. Marcus will look for you but he will not stretch nor waste resources. For him to search everywhere will take awhile. But he will find you before your training is done if we were to take it slowly, instead will will do a transference. Not all at once but I feel like a year would be good enough and that would give you a bit to train on what you have absorbed from me. But first we will need a few things from the village."
She looked around and then out the window to gauge the time.
"I don't see either of us going back to sleep so we may as well get things together for our travel."
She pointed and instructed me on what we needed and how it was to be packed. It took about an hour for everything to be secured in the cart she had and as the sun started to brighten the sky we made our way to the village. Alaina taught me a few things along the way, why Luna was so revered, that the "werewolves" honored her above all else but still thought of her "witches" as human and beneath them. She told me about the temples that once dotted the lands and were well worshipped at, also about the massacre that occurred when Sol's followers killed all the priestesses and razed almost all of the temples. The wolves went on a rampage and rid the world of all of Sol's followers. As she was finishing up her story I felt a pull towards an opening in the brush. Alaina studied me and stopped the cart.
"What is it child?"
"I-I don't know, it's like I've been here before. Things seems familiar and I feel drawn into that opening there."
I pointed towards two trees that stood identical to each other on both sides of a hidden path. It was like they were guarding the opening. Alaina asked for help out of the cart, once she was on her feet she motioned for me to proceed. As much as I wanted to it was as if my feet were frozen to the ground.
