We stayed on the cliff face in silence for a long while, Caden and Marcus leaving long enough to collect firewood and letting Alaina and I talk. Neither she nor I said anything at first, we just listened to the waves crash against the cliff and the birds piercing cries overhead.
"The look on his face when he saw me Alaina....I don't know wether to be crushed or concerned or..."
I felt the sting in my heart and the tears threatened to spill from my eyes. She took my hand squeezing gently to get my attention.
"The herbalist that came to Cassandra's tent, Julian has her locked away, along with Cassandra. The reason for Marcus' look of confusion is because he saw you, she used a resemblance potion. When you walked in and he looked upon your face it shattered the illusion. Cassandra used it to put a wedge between you...this is not the first time she has done this. She made sure that his chosen mate and him never bonded anymore than friends. She may be mated to Julian but she loves Marcus, and always will feel that he belongs to her. She will do whatever she can to be sure he is hers Lydia. So if you chose to take him as your mate you will be fighting with her the whole way. I have yet to find out what magical hold she has on him but it is deep and she somehow always find a way to weasel back into his life. His Lycan despises her and fights but.....well magic can be powerful and dark."
I watched as a sadness passed over her face as she turned back to study the sea before us. Again silence swallowed us as I digested all that she told me. His Lycan asked me to please not push him away, I could feel both him and Marcus call to me through whatever bond we had. Tonight I would walk the moon beams and see what Luna has to say. I am still hurt, angry now, with a murdering rage towards Cassandra, but I still need to clear my mind.
Soon Caden and Marcus join us and we set up a small camp and sleep. For the first time in months I sleep horribly, my body twitching to be closer to Marcus. I roll over and open my eyes to see him awake and staring at me, his green eyes full of sadness as he studies my face. Without a word I walk over to him and curl into his side, for a long while he doesn't touch me just lets me lay my head on his chest. The rhythm of his heart begins to lull me to sleep and his arm around my waist pulling me closer into him pulls a sigh from me as my eyes close and I drift off.The beams were bright and clear tonight. The paths defined and instead of meandering I felt as though I had a set path to walk. So much was going through my mind that I didn't notice Dameon standing in front of me. Her back was to me as her face stared upwards.
"Hello sister dear, so lost in thought that you can't see what you are being shown?"
The chuckle that accompanied her words was not lost on me, and a smile graced my face as I looked at her. Here on the beams her eyes were not milky white they were the color of Amethyst.
"So glad to see you, it's nice not to be alone here, maybe you can help me make sense of what Luna is trying to tell me?"
Dameon laughed her musical laughter and took my hand. We walked hand in hand as she pointed out the different meanings to the visions that we saw. So much was explained. The lives of the priestesses and their guardians, the Lycan's and their mates, how even the Others played a role in the make up of the world.
"Luna and Sol built everything together, and as much as we see them as brother and sister they really aren't. They are two halves of a whole, they are not siblings, but more like mates. Sol longs for Luna, but she never saw him in that light. She has always seen him as her equal, as her companion but not her lover. She chose our brother as her mate and if Sol ever found out her would raze this, and every other world, in retaliation. His followers are not as blinded as he is, they know Luna chooses others over him. Which is why his first disciple was as horrible as he is. You must be wary of them all, but Sol and Avyen the most. You will be seen as a powerful prize for them, being the Beloved of Luna that is enough for Avyen to hate you and for Sol to lust after you. Give the fact that you resemble her, well that adds more danger to you. "
I had to stop and rub my temples, too much had happened in a short amount of time for me to process. As if seeing what the problem was Dameon took my hands in hers and squeezed, her amethyst eyes looking into mine.
"We need you to be strong, and as hurt as you are we need you mated and claimed. If Avyen or Sol gets ahold of you and you are neither then they will claim you and that will be disastrous for everyone. As much as it hurts right now know that Marcus was a complete idiot, but dark magic was involved. The herbalist and Cassandra have been caught and the majority of the stuff has been found and gotten rid of. Both of the women are locked away, our dear brother has decided to let you deal with them, which is your right. Just know that Marcus is not entirely to blame, besides being a weak minded idiot to fall for a potion, knowing that she has a built in Marcus tracker." Dameon shakes her head and studies the shimmering beams that branch out into different paths.
"I must leave, I have many more paths to walk and you need to go bond with your mate. He needs you to heal. He is broken in more ways than one Lydia, I know you feel hurt but do keep in mind that he saw you, and once the spell was broken he tore the camp apart to get to you."
With those words she was gone and I was left standing alone on the beam, her words echoing in my mind. My heart still ached but Marcus' confused expression would not leave my mind. I steadied my breathing and brought myself back to my body.I opened my eyes to see the moon hanging lower in the sky, letting me know that even though it was still night several hours have passed. I looked up to find Marcus had not moved and his eyes were still on me, sad and haunted with regret.
"I'm sorry, I don't kn..."
"Shhh"
I placed my finger on his lips silencing him. I had made up my mind before leaving the beams that I would give him one more chance, just one, as stupid as it may sound. I would let my heart open, because of his face and the pull that I feel to him.
"I was told what happened. Just promise me that you will not let her take advantage of you again. I understand that there was something between the two of you before, and there are still feelings there now, but your are MY mate, she can't have you. And I don't share."
The last part came out with a possessive growl as I bared my canines at him which caused Marcus' eyebrow to arch up. His right hand grabbed my neck and brought my face closer to his as he bared his canines for me.
"What was that Mate?"
He growled inches from my face causing me to swallow hard. His left hand dug into my hip as his right hand put enough pressure on my throat that it was impossible for me to draw anything other than short breaths. Suddenly I was hit with his possessive aura and I whimpered with want as he smirked down at me. My eyes flashed silver as his darkened...
"Say it ."
He demanded
