A summer of chaos

The wait

Kaede's POV

As I get near the principals office I see Shuichi and Rantaro across the hall. I start to blush at the sight of Rantaro, he looks so good... I'm glad he's far away, so he can't see me blushing because that would be embarrassing. We've been friends since kindergarten and I've started to catch feelings for him.. but of course, I haven't told him yet because I don't want to ruin our friendship. Rantaro waves to me and I realized I've been staring at him! Oh no,, now he thinks I'm weird! Maybe I'm over reacting, but I don't want to mess this up. I stop at the office's door and I wait for them. "Hey Kaede!" Rantaro says "hey guys!" I say. Shuichi looks like he's going to be sick so I'm going to try to comfort him. "Are you feeling ok Shuichi?" He doesn't answer but Rantaro says, "he's never gotten in trouble before, so I think he's nervous" Shuichi speaks up and says "guys, I'm fine, don't worry. I've just not really used to this." "Is there anything we can do to help?" I ask. "No, I'm ok" he responds. We are quiet for a while and the tension is really strong. We sit down in the chairs next to the office and Rantaro breaks the silence and says, "so what's everyone's plans for the summer?" I say, "Nothing much, I'm probably going to visit my Grandma and I might go to piano camp." "Ah that sounds nice" he says. "Yeah, what are you doing this summer?" I ask, he responds, " I don't really have anything planned, but my sisters are going to summer camp so I get some time to myself which will be nice." I suddenly have a genus idea,, " how about we throw a beginning of summer party!". "That sounds like a good idea! When would it be?" He says. "How about tonight!" I suggest. "Sure! I'm free all day so that will work perfectly!". Yes! I'm so happy he's down! Now it's the moment of truth,, "do you want to come over to my house after school to get ready for the party?" I can feel my heart going a mile a minute waiting for his response. "Sure! What time should I come over?". Not thinking, I say " my house is right near the school, you can walk with me if you want!" He nods his head and says yes. I'm so excited until I realize, my room is a mess. I start panicking and Rantaro notices, "are you ok?" "Yeah yeah, I'm fine. I just um gotta go to the bathroom". I run to the bathroom as fast as I can. What am I gonna do!

Rantaro's POV

Im so happy right now! Maybe at the party tonight I'll confess my feelings for Kaede... I've been waiting for a while to ask her out, and I think tonight is the night. I start daydreaming and all of a sudden, i realize that Shuichi isn't next to me anymore. "Shuichi?" I call out. I don't get an answer and he's no where in sight. I was so distracted I didn't even realize he left! I get up and start searching the classrooms in the hall. I come across the boys bathroom and I decide to go inside. "Shuichi?" I call out. I get a response this time "Rantaro? Is that you?" "Yes it is" I reply. I find Shuichi in the last stall and he looks like he was crying. I give him a hug and I ask him what's actually wrong. He says that he is really scared because he doesn't want to go to summer school. I comfort him and tell him that we are in this together and that we won't get sent to summer school because we didn't do anything. All of a sudden the bathroom door bursts open and we hear a loud, slightly annoying, familiar voice. "Where have you guys been!" Kokichi yells into the stall. "More like where have YOU been Kokichi " I said sourly. "Geez! I was just in the principal's office, it's not like I was making out with you beloved Kaedeeee". "Shut up Kokichi" I say jokingly this time. Kokichi looks down at Shuichi and is caught off guard. "Woahh what's wrong Shuichi? Did someone do something to you? Just give me an address,, I'll have make them pay!" I say to Kokichi, " well Kokichi, your little party is going to get us in trouble, so now we have to go speak to the principal-" he interrupts me and says " speaking of angry principals, y'all are supposed to go to the office now. I was sent to go get yous peoples because you decided to run away. Also, tell me what he does when he discovers the dead frog in his private bathroom nehehehehe" Kokichi skips off and Shuichi lets out a small laugh, which is a relief because I thought he was going to pass out from fear! We head out of the bathroom and we see Kaede waiting outside. "Where have you two been" she said. Shuichi looks at me and I say " we just needed a minute" "oh ok!" She says cheerfully.

Shuichi's POV

How is Kaede so calm! We are about to get sentenced to life in summer school! The principal opens the door and invites us in...
