Lilian Carson POV
My plan worked. Sherley stood by me and gave the necessary alibi. The guards believed her. I would have to go to my house first, and from there, I would take my car to the train station. I knew I had to act quickly and leave before anyone realised what had truly happened. As I drove towards my house, adrenaline pumping through my veins, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief that Sherley had been there to support me. With her help, I would be able to gather evidence. It was a two-hour train ride; I need to disguise myself as well.
The car stopped at my house. The driver had a keen eye on me. Little did he know that I would run under his nose and he wouldn't even notice. The guard took my backpack and put it inside the house. Sherley walked out and hugged me. I quickly whispered to her about my plan, and she nodded in understanding. As we walked into the house, I couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched. The driver's suspicious gaze lingered on me for a moment longer before he finally drove away. With a sigh of relief, Sherley and I retreated to my room. Sherley informed me that my dad also left with Alexander; he didn't say anything about business trips and suddenly left. I felt a knot form in my stomach as I wondered what could have prompted my dad's sudden departure. Sherley and I exchanged worried glances, realising that something was definitely amiss.
"Anyways, take care! I hope you find what you are looking for. Your dad is surely acting pretty weird."
I nodded, feeling a mix of confusion and concern. "Thanks, Sherley," I said, appreciating her support. "I'll try to figure out what's going on." As she left, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to my dad's sudden departure than met the eye. I quickly changed into a hat, sunglasses, and trench coat, hoping that my new appearance would be enough to throw anyone off my trail. I bid my goodbyes to Sherley and headed out the door. She kept a car ready for me to drive. I hopped into the car and sped off, my mind racing with questions. The secrecy surrounding my dad's sudden departure only fueled my determination to uncover the truth.
After a few minutes, I reached the train station and parked the car in a secluded spot. I made sure to keep a low profile, blending in with the crowd as I scanned the area for any suspicious activity. The train platform was bustling with people, but I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching me. I discreetly boarded the train, finding a seat near the back where I could observe my surroundings without drawing attention. As the train pulled away from the station, I knew that the answers I sought were waiting for me at my destination. The next two hours would be crucial to staying hidden.
My eyes were fixated on the rolling hills and mountainside outside the window. Lush trees covered the landscape with a flourish of warm colours. Daisy yellow, sunset orange, and deep red swirled together as the wind ruffled the leaves. The beauty of nature outside provided a calming contrast to the urgency of my mission. I couldn't help but feel a sense of serenity amidst the chaos that awaited me.
I took out my book and opened it to a random page, hoping to distract my racing thoughts. As I delved into the words on the page, the characters and their fictional world enveloped me, momentarily transporting me away from the imminent danger. The rhythmic sound of the train's wheels on the tracks provided a soothing background melody, further enhancing my escape into the realm of imagination.
Suddenly my eyes fell onto the torn page, and I couldn't help but wonder what had happened to this book before it came into my possession. As I was contemplating solutions for my problem, a quick flash of the door stole my attention away. A small and thin figure had slipped in and was now sitting across from me. The figure had a mysterious aura, with a dark cloak draped over their shoulders and a hat pulled low to conceal their face. Intrigued, I couldn't help but be drawn to their presence, wondering if I was safe.
