For a moment the air was still. The sky was in the beginning stages of changing its hues to a soft orange and the wind blew ever so steadily through the trees. And there you were, with a blaster firmly clutched within your grasp and aimed sharply at the Mandalorian before you.
"Where's the child?" he demanded.
"Drop your weapon then we'll talk." you answered in the same tone, although you are trembling at the knees. You hope he didn't notice.
He held his blaster out straighter. "Give him to me."
Your mouth was dry and your palms were abnormally sweaty. Your entire body was jittering with fear, but you tried to keep your nerves hidden by shifting your weight around on your feet. "What does a Mandalorian want with a child anyway?"
"What does a murderous savage want with a child?" he jabbed, referring to you.
"I'm asking you the same question." your voice broke as you spoke. If it wasn't your face that gave it away, it would be your voice. You could feel the heat rising in your cheeks at your mistake. Good thing your face is covered.
"My people are not savages," he replied. "but we can be." his blaster clicked.
You slightly flinched at the sound, but immediately composed yourself—partially. "O-oh?" you stuttered, now breathing a little harder than usual. You kept the fake confidence in your tone, even though it's obvious that you're on the verge of pissing yourself. "Yeah? Really?" He didn't reply, he only stood there with his gun still pointed at you. You kept your blaster pointed at him as well, but unlike his firm, unmoving hold on the blaster, yours was shaking.
A moment of awkward silence dragged by before he spoke again. "I'm not asking you again. Give me the child."
You slapped your other hand around on your blaster in an attempt to steady your trembling. "I'd like to see you try and take him from me, Mandalorian."
Unlike before your tone had a slight difference to it now. It had a sense of boldness to it. The thought of the Mandalorian getting his hands on the child and hurting him sparked a new found courage within you.
After your surprisingly courageous words, you were certain that he was gonna shoot. After the words left your mouth you laid your finger down on the trigger just as he did, but completely missed your shot. Not because you have a bad case of stormtrooper's aim, but because you suddenly felt an electric shock travel all throughout your body. You felt every muscle in your body erupt into flames right before your stinging, paralyzed body met the ground. The Mandalorian didn't do it to you. He was facing you as he fell to the ground as well, grunting and twitching with agony.
You were familiar with this type of shock; you had received it before. You knew who did it and because so, you wanted to run. To scream. To cry, but you couldn't. You were completely paralyzed, unable to run this time.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Your head was heavy on your shoulders and the world around you was blurred. The darkness around the edges of your eyes slowly faded away as you eased back into consciousness. A blurry figure moved in front of you and you sluggishly held your head up.
"Well if it isn't my favorite little bird!" he said, patting you on the cheek of your helmet. "I was beginning to wonder when you'll wake up."
