Book 1 Part 31
Skeletons of Home

We made it to shore and I hesitantly left the ferry. The peaceful presence the morning brought had faded. Reality took a death grip on my shoulders and wouldn't let go. My whole body felt heavy as we headed to the arena.
Fae snapped me out of my gaze, which had been glued to the sidewalk below us.. "Come on Princess~"
"Absolutely not! " I emphasized as I sent him a sharp glare.. He knew the reality of his words...
"So it is a pet name just for Korra to call you?" Bolin joked.. I huffed and rolled my eyes..
"You know what? Yeah.. because you two know why not to call me that.. " They knew... Korra didn't..
Korra then shot me a confused look and I shook my head. "I'll stop then." Korra took this as a sign to not call me princess.. Okay no.. not what I meant..
"No.. you have permission.. They~" I stopped to point at the boys who were amused by the situation.. "Do not~".
"Until she finds out why? Or even then she will still be the favorite?" Fae crossed his arms.. I.. I was going to tell Korra.. Right?.. She looked at me, genuinely confused and slightly concerned.
"I.." I crossed my arms.. Keeping my eyes locked in a starring match with my shoes.. Would Korra even want to stick around to call me that..? If she knew what would stop her from just leaving..? "That's not something you should worry about." I huffed and picked up my pace as I headed to the arena..
"Woah~.. What was that about?" Korra called out.. To no one specific., No one answered her. I just walked silently the rest of the way.
That solidified my reason for wanting to go to Mako first... I don't want the others around me when I go in there....
Especially not now..
I paid no attention to the others as I entered the Arena.. The place was empty.. The championships were supposed to be days ago... Instead.. They had to be moved because of what happened.. Give the Ferret brothers time to grieve..
I headed directly to the apartment.. Hopefully he was here... and as much as I adored Asami and him together...
I hoped she wasn't here....
I knocked on the door.. I heard shuffling before Mako's voice.. Which sounded off.. "You finally home, Bro..?....K-Kid?" He stopped when he saw me on the ladder.. Which was definitely painful to climb up... I hadn't been using my right arm and even though it has mostly healed despite the scar.. It was still really sore.
He stepped back before offering me his hand, I took it and he pulled me up into the apartment.. It was messy in here.
Mako looked terrible.. My suspicions were correct.. Hiding away from everyone to process it alone... We were too similar.. Only he didn't use people as a distraction from it.. He and I had gone to sit on the couch... Nearby, Pabu had been sleeping on a cushioned seat..
So Pabu decided that Mako needed someone.. Thanks little buddy.. Mako leaned his elbows on his knees as he turned his head to face me..
"What are you doing here (Y/n).. you should be in bed.." I shook my head..
