TO SAY I WAS SURPRISED to see George here after he told me and Lexi that he was leaving was an understatement.

However I greeted him with a small smile as I tied my shoes, already having put on my light scrubs.

This felt good. A new good. And a new beginning. And I was ready for it.

I was given the name of my resident and my eyebrows furrowed slightly in confusion as I stared at George who was with me.

George gave a slight smile, nodding his head at me to follow.

I smiled.

"I have five rules. Memorize them. Rule number one. I already hate you. That's not going to change"

George, two other interns and me followed Dr. Grey... Yes, Dr. Grey as in Lexi, which was confusing as hell. Were they related? Or total strangers with the same last name? It happened. I knew people like that and they didn't mean they were related at all. Maybe it was just a coincidence.

She showed us around the hospital as we followed like lost puppies, well except for George who totally seemed like he knew where he was going.

"Trauma protocol, phone list, pagers, nurses will page you. You will answer every page at a run. A run. That's rule number two. Your first shift starts now and lasts 36 hours. You're interns, grunts, nobodies. Bottom of the surgical food chain. You run labs, write orders, work every second night until you drop and you don't complain"

Dr Grey led us to a door, opening it, turning to face us. Her looking at us while she explained was easier for me as I wasn't straining my hearing from my implant. She gestured at an on-call room, turning the lights on "On-call rooms. Sleep when you can, where you can. You know, but not with anybody. Not attendings. Especially not attendings, sleeping with attendings, not a good idea" I frowned slightly in question but bit my tongue not to ask. It wouldn't do me good if my resident hated me without her even knowing me. Dr Grey paused, blinking at us "Where was I?"

At my side, George glanced down at his little notebook "Um, rule number three" he showed her his book. Dr. Grey read it, frowning slightly "If you're sleeping, do not wake you unless a patient's actually dying"

I immediately wrote that down with red ink, caps and circling it. Important rule then.

Rule number four was that the patient better not be dead or not only we were going to be the guilty ones of killing someone but we would have woken her up with no good good reason.

I raised my hand, tentatively. Dr. Grey raised her eyebrows at me, "That was four. What's number five?"

Rule number five?

When Dr. Grey moves, WE MOVE.

The first few hours of our shift wasn't that bad. Only when I almost would screw up and George, oh Saint George would correct me into not screwing up.
