I walk onto the field, following Mo Salah close behind as I move my arms around, nerves filling my blood as I look around the massive stadium. The Liverpool fans screaming and singing You'll Never Walk Along as we stand in a line. I look to my right to see my best friend and boyfriend, Curtis, standing in the line as well. He gives me a big smile as well as a thumbs up. "You're gonna do great." He mouths as I smile at him. Before I could answer him, we were walking and shaking hands with the opposing side, Arsenal.
Yes, I was a girl but I was playing in the first team men's team for Liverpool. Times were changing and the sport was becoming more unisex, which was great as it gave females more of a chance to be paid equally to men. There was still females clubs, but females could be asked to play for the men's first team. Luckily, I was offered. However, you genuinely had to be good in order to play for a men's club and the manager had to ask for you, not the other way around like in some cases in football.
Growing up, myself and Curtis become really close because I attended training with my brother, Trent Alexander Arnold, with Liverpool since I was a very young. From there, the three of us really just hit it off, becoming the three musketeers who were and still are inseparable. To be fair, we were little shits but we were always there for one another, even in tough times. It first started off as being just friends between me and Curtis but as time passed, the more I realised I had feelings for the young man. We just clicked and it was more than just a friendly click.
Once we both reached 16, we decided to start dating but in secret. Not only didn't I want the public to know as I was already receiving hate and being told that I was only in the first team because of my brother, but also because I didn't want my brother to know. He was protective over me and he didn't want me to get hurt and imagine I got hurt by our "best friend".
I take a short run to the center back position, where Joe was normally, and stand alongside Virgil. "You're gonna do great Y/N." Virgil says as he gives me a charming smile. I thank him as I face the ball. The whilst blows and the game official begins. The game was tough to say the least. The taller Arsenal players were finding it easy to get past me, but I wasn't allowing them near goal, sliding everywhere and pushing them whenever I could. The first half ended 0-0, and we knew we needed to win the game to start the season off right.
We get a little pep-talk from Klopp and head back out again. Curtis stops me and squeezes my shoulder, "You're doing well." He says causing me to smile, "You too. Lets go win this game." I say as we run back onto the pitch. Unfortunately, Arsenal were able to score from a deflected shot from me. It hurt but I didn't let it get to me.
We were able to get a goal back, Sadio Mane scoring making the whole of Anfield erupt in cheers. In the 94th minute, Liverpool got a corner after Andy tried to cross the ball but instead of finding one of the Liverpool players, it found an Arsenal players head who was able to hit it out for a corner. I stand in the center of the box, easily being man handled because of how short I was despite being a center back. Trent takes the cross and it comes directly to me. I jump as high as I can and header it into the goal. I run to my brother and attack him in a bone crushing hug, happy to score on my debut for the club.
The Arnold super team at it once again. I pull away from hugging everyone and without thinking twice, I kiss Curtis on the lips. We act as if nothing happened, but Trent didn't exactly take it like nothing happened as his stare follows me. The game finishes with a good and well deserved win as we make it back to the dressing room. Klopp congratulates us as we get our interviews and everything over and done with.
Before I could leave to go back to my apartment where I was planning to meet Curtis, Trent stops me as he points to the field, "You and Curtis?" He asks as I sigh and nod. As I'm about to answer him, Curtis comes and pats him on the shoulder, "Sorry we didn't tell you. We just wanted to keep it a secret from everyone." Curtis says as he wraps his arms around me. "Its okay guys. The family loves you Curtis so I have no issue with it." Trent says as I smile at him.
"But you hurt her mate..." Trent says as he gets up close to Curtis, "Okay! That's enough from you. See you tomorrow knob head." I say as I pat Trent on the back, "Love you too little sis." He says as we make our way to my car. "I love you, you know that right?" Curtis says to me as we stand outside of my car, "Of course I do." I say as I caress his cheek, "Great. But, this is just in case you don't." He says before placing his lips on mine, "Go home! My eyes!" Trent shouts making us laugh before we head home, enjoying a good cuddle.
