The day of the merger was one that the residents of Mercy West had dreaded for a long time. Charlotte had felt at home at the hospital, especially with the new addition of Dr. Callie Torres. Torres was an orthopedic surgery goddess, a badass. Charlotte, though having little desire in following through with a career in orthopedics, took a great liking to Torres. But of course, that got taken all too quickly.

Callie Torres previously worked at Seattle Grace Hospital. She explained to Charlotte that she left on bad terms with the chief of surgery. She did, however, promise the young resident that she would beg the chief for her job back, for the sake of both Charlotte and herself.

So it was the morning of the merger that Charlotte found herself choking back an anxiety attack. She was clenching her fists in her bedroom, blinking rapidly to blink back tears. The change was terrifying, and she didn't have Reed to lean on at that moment.

It was her own fault, though. She had told her sister and roommate, April Kepner, to go pick up some breakfast from their favorite cafe before their workday began. Charlotte knew she couldn't keep food down if she tried, and she didn't want to be a burden on her friend and sister's plans for the morning of the merger.

Charlotte's mind was all over the place as she stood from her makeup vanity, her face only covered in a thin layer of foundation that barely covered the dark circles under her eyes from her bad night of sleep.

In an anxious haze, she slipped on her favorite pair of shoes, grabbed her purse and Scooby Doo themed diary (that April Kepner made her keep for "mental stability"), and got in her car. The drive to the hospital was quick, and she didn't quite realize she had parked in a parking spot until a tap on the window knocked her out of her thoughts. Jackson Avery stood beside her, his bright eyes glaring at the anxious girl.

"Lottie, are you alright?" He asked as Charlotte left her vehicle.

"Perfect.

"You were sitting in your turned off car, staring out the window at the bumper of that Range Rover."

Charlotte rolled her eyes at her friend, instantly feeling better with him by her side. "Maybe I've just got a thing for Range Rovers."

Jackson smirked and replied, "Yeah, your panties are dripping for that car."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, Range Rover at my garage ready to-" Charlotte was cut off by a very hard doorframe smacking her in her shoulder, letting out a string of curses as she recovered. Jackson erupted in uncontrollable laughter, earning a playful punch in the shoulder.

The pair quickly contained themselves, proceeding down the hall towards the man handing out scrubs. Charlotte unknowingly left a piece of herself behind, though: her diary.

"We look like fucking prisoners, Jackson. What, are we going to be operating with shanks?" Charlotte exclaimed as the pair entered the resident lounge. Several residents in blue scrubs glared at them upon entering.
