Charlotte felt numb several days into her time at Seattle Grace Hospital. It wasn't because of the diary. It wasn't because of her fight with Charles. It wasn't because Izzie Stephens, the only Seattle Grace resident she was comfortable with, was fired. It was because someone fucked up big time. She felt overarching doom looming over her and though she was sure the death of the patient had nothing to do with her, the fear of the slight possibility haunted her.
What would happen if she were to be sent home, away from her sister and forced to find a different job... to be a lame old regular doctor, or worse, a biology teacher.
It was the numbness that caused Charlotte to sit in a daze as she and her fellow residents sat on the sides of a long hallway. The others mumbled and grumbled about how they weren't involved, but it was when a fight broke out between Jackson and Alex that Charlotte was knocked out of her trance-like state by an elbow meeting her nose. She let out a mangled yelp, her hands flying to her nose, and she finally noticed the crowd of people. Attendings Owen Hunt, Mark Sloan, and Derek Shepherd were holding Jackson and Alex apart, the group now silent since Charlotte was injured.
Charlotte struggled to hold back tears as blood began gushing from her nose. Reed was instantly at her side, rubbing her back.
"You are a bunch of dumbasses," Reed yelled at the pair of men. Mark Sloan kneeled down in front of Charlotte, using a towel to dry the blood.
"I said enough!" Richard Webber's voice boomed over the group of residents, bringing the argument to a close. "What happened here tonight, what happened to the patient, was inexcusable. And we are going to be here until I find out who's responsible for it! So until then you will sit down. You will shut up, and you will wait to be called. Hunt."
And with that, Owen Hunt was pulled into the room before the board.
"Are you okay, Lottie?" Jackson asked his friend, returning to the chair beside her. It was his elbow that did the damage, and he knew it the minute it happened.
It wasn't Charlotte that answered. It was her sister. "Of course she isn't okay! You people have your heads up your asses constantly!" Reed yelled. Everyone ignored her comment, not wanting another argument to begin.
Charles Percy cut in, "She's the one fucking Karev in the closet."
Alex almost came out of his chair at that, being held back by the hand of Lexie Grey. The room fell into silence again.
"It doesn't look broken," Sloan informed Charlotte, feeling her nose with his fingers, "I'll get you some ice."
And just like that, the room was completely quiet. No one dared to speak. Charlotte sat stiffly, holding an ice pack to her nose as Jackson rested his arm around the girl. The events of the previous night were running through her mind.

Charlotte had just gotten out of an appendectomy when she was paged to the ER. She groaned and hurried, expecting the worst.
