Chapter 30
Jeonghan doesn't remember much of the ride back to the apartment. He was sort of a mixture between numb, and dissociative. He was barely aware of them flying down the highway. Luckily, Minghao's bullet wound was only a flesh wound. And even though he was losing a lot of blood, they would have enough time to drop most of everyone off at the apartment, and see if they would have to take Minghao to the hospital or not. But Jeonghan was too numb to really think about that at the moment. Now don't get him wrong, he loved Minghao dearly, he did, and he cared about him, but he was just too out of it to really care about that at the moment. He knew that Soonyoung and Mingyu could take care of it at the moment, and allowed himself to be able to check out for a moment or two. At least until they got back to the apartment that is. And then he would have to put on his game face. He made a promise to Seungcheol after all, to be strong and he was determined more than ever to keep this promise.
All that he could clearly think about was Seungcheol. How he looked the last time that he saw him. How even though they were busted and he set himself up as a prisoner to the enemy, he still had so much hope in his eyes. He believed in Jeonghan, that he would figure out a way to get him out of there. And that terrifies him so much. He loved Seungcheol, a lot he really did, but he was no leader. Seungcheol was their leader, and he could never be able to come up with a plan like him. The farther away from Kim's headquarters to the apartment that was on loan from them from Bangtan, Jeonghan was getting more and more pessimistic about this. He should have stopped Seungcheol from doing that. Then he would be able to go back to Shua and the rest of the kids, and be back in a couple of hours to rescue them. And they would take Kim down and everything would work out well in the end. But, Jeonghan knows somewhere in the back of his mind that Seungcheol would have never let him do that. He felt sick to his stomach thinking about what they could be possibly doing to Seungcheol at this very moment. He made Mingyu pull over on the side of the road at one point and he had to lean over and puke. None of the others in the car paid much attention to him. He was able to tell them to worry about Minghao before he checked out, and they haven't bothered him since. And for that small thing he was very grateful for.
And before Jeonghan knew it, they were back at the apartment. Lucky for them that Soonyoung had called ahead on the way home, and they had a reception committee ready and waiting for them when they got back. Jeonghan could only imagine how nervous and worried everyone was. They only heard part of what happened when everything went to shit, so they don't know the whole story. Actually, the only two people who know what happened are him and MingMing. He had no idea what he was supposed to tell the others though. There is no easy way to tell everyone that their leader, their brother, and their rock was captured. He had promised Chan that he was going to bring his brother back, and all that he did was screw up enough that it got him taken away from them for possibly forever. "Hyung?" Jeonghan came out of his head and turned his attention towards Mingyu. "Yeah?" He asked in a hoarse voice. It didn't even sound like his own voice to his ears. "We're here, are you going to get out?" He asked him. Jeonghan nodded absentmindedly and got out of the car. He couldn't shake the feeling of impending doom though as he went.
When Jeonghan got out of the car, he saw everyone gathered around the front door of the apartment building. All of them had looks of concern, worry, fear, and relief on their faces. It broke Jeonghan's heart in two. How the hell was he supposed to tell them all what happened now? Though he knew that he had no choice, after all, they are going to notice the fact that Seungcheol isn't here with them. He knew that he was working with borrowed time here, and he hated it. But he owed to the rest of them, the rest of his family to tell them the truth. And looking at them now, he can tell that they are starting to figure that out now. Joshua was one of the first people to get into action. He moved and signaled Seungkwan, and Seokmin to come over to check out Minghao, and MingMing. He had the two of them, along with Hansol, Samuel, and Dongjin take them inside and up the stairs to get treated. He then turned around to Jeonghan. He walked over to the elder, and gently cupped his face in his hands. "Oh my god Hannie, what the hell happened to you guys?" He asked softly. Jeonghan just frowned and shook his head at him. "Hyung." And God, he really thought that he had more time to do this, he really did. Why did the world have it out for him today. "Hyung," Chan called as he stepped over to them. "Where's Seungcheol Hyung, where's my brother?" He asked him. And that's when Jeonghan knew that this was going to go to shit.
