(Same Day, just around eleven at night)

She stayed silent, leaning against the wall beside the door like she did just three years ago. Her breaking calm and controlled as her body stayed relax. She would learn a simple truth tonight and depending on the truth, it might change how her future would be on this camp.

Friend or foe didn't fit right, this wasn't just a simple falling out and pretending to never know each other. This would either be sticking together until the end or wiping the other from each other memory forever.

Everything would be chosen, would she stand beside him or would she be a solder just following any orders given.

Of course, she was a soldier either way but her loyalty would shift to either him or the commander.

It was time to find the truth, to find if she would stay as Mikasa or only become a soldier he held no link to ever again.

"Are you mad?" She was the first to speak, his back to her as he stood by his window, holding his cup of tea and standing by the open half of the curtain why he looked to the night sky.

"That question ended with one of us leaving last time" He shot back, grabbing at the curtain and closing it to hide the fact that an unranked soldier stood in his room.

"I would have left if either way, a simple question never decided my fate" She replied with a slight shrug, her arms lazily crossed over her stomach, her left ankle over her right and she stood in almost all of her uniform apart from her straps and cape. Her red shawl stayed as a scarf around her neck and her hair still short.

"True but that doesn't mean I'll just accept you leaving on your own" He answered, finally turning around and looking to her. He had barely changed within the three years, standing in only the basic of his uniform. Just his trousers and shirt, nothing more. His jacket hooked over the desk chair, his cape hanging on his boot and his shoes by his wardrobe while the skirt or straps were no where in visible sight.

"We have two choices, depending on tonight depends on what path we take" She sighed, letting her eyes fall to look at the floor. She couldn't help but notice how much he seemed use to the uniform, he really was a captain now.

"Survey Corps or me?" He asked, placing his cup on the bedside table and taking a deep breath as he knew why she was here. They were at a stand still, a chose had to be made for both their futures. A silent agreement over where they stood with one another.

As them or as soldiers.

"I'm staying either way but what will we be? Am I Mikasa or am I just a soldier to you?" She asked, lifting her head and looking straight at him. An old emotion in her eyes that he hasn't seen for a while and almost missed if things were different.

"Don't you think it's a little unfair to make me choose" He scoffed back, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning his hip a little.

"I was giving you the choose because I know my answer. Three years, it's a long time for some. I won't trap you to me if you found a place here, I was never the only one searching for a place to belong and you clearly found home here. I won't take it from you, I just need to know where you wish for me to stand. As Mikasa or as a Soldier? A simple question, I'll respect whatever you choose and I'll keep that line drawn" She explained, uncrossing her arms and pushing from the wall, standing a little before running a hand through her hair.

"You gained a scar?" He spoke, his eyes staring at the scar under her right eye. He could get past the short hair, training is always touch but he won't overlook the scar that she held now.

"Training accident, odm wire broke and I'm lucky to only be caught with a scratch from the wire" She answered, bringing her right hand up and letting her finger tips brush over where she knew where the scar was placed. It was a complete accident, that's what was written in the report. Faulty wire that finally broke, it would have killed anyone but her, her instincts better and her movements quick making her just miss out on the full force of the whip from snapping wire. Sure, it stung and she almost died from the fall after but she survived and that's all that matters now.

"Odm gear wire doesn't just snap that easily, not for soldiers in training at least" He commented, a frown on his lips as he wasn't an idiot. Someone clearly messed with her gear before she entered those training woods.

"It was two years ago, it's not important anymore" She sighed, her hand falling back to her side limply.

"You'll accept anything chose I make tonight?" He asked, he knew she wasn't going to let him buy any more time and he didn't blame her. They had to know where they stood, if they were both going to live in this camp and serve under Erwin they had to know their relationship with one another. Was it still just them or were they strangers? He had to chose, he had more footing as the Captain and she could still start new without anyone ever knowing they knew each other once before. They could either stay linked or forgotten.

"Yes" She simply answered, her wall built high to stop him from seeing how she felt over any answer he sent her way tonight. She was protecting herself, ready to accept their fate and he hated it. He felt like she was giving up, all this time and everything they deal with and she's ready to run if he wanted nothing more to do with her.

"What happened to the stubborn brat?" He hissed, glaring at the floor as she rolled her eyes.

"She grew up" She answered coldly making him tense a little.

She really did change over the three years, growing taller and her body filling that of a women's. She wasn't a child anymore, she was a young women and all could see.

She really was fit for marriage.

Damn, he might actually murder someone now.

"Head back to your barracks, it's late and you'll need the full rest for the rest of the week planned out for you" He replied, turning his back to her and reaching for his empty cup and ready to wash it in the small kitchen within the captain/commander barracks building.

She stayed silent, just giving a nod before turning and reaching for the door handle. Deciding it was best to follow her Captain advice for once and knew that once she left, the chose would be made.

"Did you know you'll stand here once the three years passed?" He spoke as she opened the door, her body staying still as she took in his question.

"In truth, no" She answered with a frown, lowing her head a little before stepping out and closing the door behind her before another word could be spoken between them. If she was honest, she told others I was heading for the Survey Corps but she never knew if she was brave enough to step in this camp again.

He let a sigh escape his lips, his eyes falling to the bit of wall in the corner beside his wardrobe. A single hook hidden away from anyone line of vision by the door, the only true spot to see it was by the window and the bed. His eyes falling to the single old cape hanging on it, for him and him alone to see each day and know that she would one day return.

And she did, she returned just like she secretly promised.

He wasn't alone, he found a home here but he finally had the one place he belonged return to him.

She was home and she didn't know just how many days he's waited by that window waiting for her to sneak in and let him know she was still here.

She was alive, he knew she wouldn't just die on him but still, the unknown scared him.

But she was here, she was in his reach and he knew what he had to do.
