The apparition was not something that was particularly exciting; this is why Alexis was glad it was finally over when they both landed in a dark room."Where are we, Aberle 2.0?"
"We renovated so this is where the members apparate to. Follow me."
The cautious girl took out a dagger and slipped it into the sleeve of her jacket before following after Jaxon.
They walked down an empty corridor and turned the corner abruptly. Upon turning the corner, what seemed like thousands of people appeared. All of them either training outside or wandering inside the place that now looked completely different than it used to.
It resembled Hogwarts with its pillars and castle structure. Except the difference was that there were dark colors decorating the walls and it was more connected with muggle inventions.
Jaxon looked back at Alexis who had furrowed brows.
"We got more recruits."
"I can see that," she said, raising her brows at the large group of people. "What's the age range?"
"Well, the youngest is 10 years old and the oldest is around 17 to 18 years old. We obviously have older members, but they grew out of living here now that they're legally adults."
"Young."
"Yeah. Some kids are recruited because they're orphans and don't have enough money."
Alexis nodded slowly as she looked around the place. Some of the recruits were looking at her with curiosity but soon looked away when she looked back at them with a cold stare.
After walking a bit more, they arrived at wooden double doors that reminded her of the doors at Hogwarts. Jaxon knocked on the doors and waited a bit before a muffled come in came from behind them.
The pair walked into a large room that was lit up very well, considering its size. Alexis looked around the room and saw a large window with a desk facing towards the door.
Along the left side of the room were multiple bookshelves filled with how-to's and guides to random things. The right side had a platform that led up to a balcony that showed the courtyard where multiple kids were training.
Jaxon cleared his throat loudly. Alexis looked closely and saw that he was looking at the chair that was facing towards the window. An annoyed voice came from the chair almost immediately after.
"Jaxon. If you can't complete a simple task, you might as well—"
The chair spun around to reveal a young man with short and curly brown hair. Alexis waved her fingers with a cheeky smirk on her face.
"Orginal Aberle."
"Riddle."
Riven stared at her in shock before standing up quickly. He looked between Jaxon and Alexis for a split second before walking around the desk.
"Jaxon, get out of here."
"Bu—"
"I said now." Riven had a stern look on his face as Jaxon turned and walked out of the room.
Riven sighed and turned to Alexis. To his surprise, she wasn't there anymore. He frantically looked around the room before seeing her standing on the balcony.
He quickly walked over to her and placed his hands in his pockets.
Alexis gave out a sigh. "What I would've given to be at a place like this."
"You could've stayed."
She looked at Riven. "You know I couldn't."
Riven leaned on the railing with his back and elbows. "Why didn't you kill him?"
"You know I could right now. I bet I can find him hiding somewhere in this place." Alexis started to walk into the room when Riven grabbed her arm quickly.
"Not what I meant." Alexis raised a brow and looked at her arm. Riven let go quickly and looked her in her eyes. "What are you here for then?"
Alexis went back to the railing and looked at all the children. "I really don't want to do this. I may be cold but these are children."
"What are you talking about, Riddle?"
"How many galleons do you think your brother is worth?"
Riven straightened up and looked at her with a confused look. "I don't know. 15 Galleons?"
Alexis looked at Riven in the eyes and dropped her 'kind' look. "Choose 15 people Riven."
"I don't understand. What does that have to do with this?"
"I said choose 15 people Riven." Alexis kept her voice calm and still but managed to have a superior tone that made Riven shiver slightly. "If you don't choose, I'll choose for you."
Riven huffed in disbelief and walked off, leaving Alexis on the balcony.
'Am I doing the right thing?'
Alexis didn't know anymore. Was this it? Was this going to be what people use to connect her to her father?
She scoffed and walked into the room.
She didn't give a damn about what they think about her anymore.
A life for a life.
Or lives.
