She's been doing missions with Kento and another classmate named Yu Haibara. This black-haired man is a burst of sunshine, his appearance and behavior said it all. Umi thought he would be a good friend for her. She wanted a friend after all since she had never experienced having a friend before.
Yu is also Kento's first friend ever since they attended Tokyo Jujutsu High. Whenever she was with them often, Umi sometimes felt out of place because she couldn't even relate to their topics or engage in a conversation as much as she wanted to talk with them. But listening to them is also good because she got to know them deeply. Right?
"Kioko! Nanami! We have a mission!" Yu announced as Umi wiped her sweats after training of her cursed technique and walked towards Yu and Kento. Another mission again. She could absorb other emotions again to exorcize the cursed spirits.
"Let's go investigate that now." Umi suggested and Yu nodded in response while Kento was just standing in front of them, sighing. They started to go to the designated location that their teacher assigned to them and while walking, Yu, as usual, opened a conversation to get rid of the dead silence within them.
"Hey, Kioko. I'm really wondering if there are any chances for you to see us with colors." Yu piqued his curiosity about her condition. Kento just felt uncomfortable when Yu brought that up as if it was a sensitive topic for her.
"Is this fine for Kioko to ask?" A stab pierced her heart when Kento turned the question to his friend which Yu contemplated his curiosity. Is he concerned? Something less concerned? Hard to guess.
Umi took a longing glance at Kento, seeing him with brilliant colors before averting her gaze on him. Perhaps, she has a small chance to see everyone with colors aside from Kento. Now, she couldn't just bring up to tell Yu about Kento, who has these colors with him, is living in her monochrome world. It sounded like a fantasy-like story. It was so unrealistic.
"I guess that would be great to any of you with colors." Umi shrugged her shoulders and laughed dryly. She took another glance at Kento before returning to Yu. I am starting to get obvious here.
"Well, I am happy to see that soon." Yu laughed softly and continued to speak with them as they're still walking on the street. "I just happened to think if you ever meet a person with colors, that would be your soulmate."
This guy is up to something. There's no way if that kind of belief is true.
Does that mean Kento is my soulmate? Heck, I still considered him a curse.
They entered the abandoned building together. Kento suggested that they should separate to investigate every corner of the building as the two agreed with it. She is better doing the mission alone rather than having a companion. Umi ran into the building and started to investigate. As she ran through the hallways, rotting blood painted over the walls and bones scattered around. She stopped at the intersection when she sensed cursed energy around.
"Let me steal your emotions and kill you everyone brutally." Umi taunted when weaker cursed spirits appeared slowly around her, growling at her as she prepared her crossbow. By perfectly hitting them multiple times, they disappeared, and as she stretched her arms, relieved however, another one approached at her place. She thought of another cursed spirit again, approaching toward her. "Please don't come near me if–?!" Her sentence cut off when she turned around and saw Kento appeared in the hallway with blood splattered on his face and clothes.
"If what, Kioko?" He asked in a monotone and she snorted, putting her crossbow at her back.
"Ah, Nothing." She honestly responded because she thought it's another weaker cursed spirit, but it's only him with cursed spirits' blood on his uniform. "Where's Haibara? I was surprised that this will be our meeting place after investigating the building." Umi asked as Kento leaned against the wall, folding his arms over his chest while he's still holding his blunt sword.
