When kassie left her room she heard the front door open. Immediately she was on edge, ready to attack anyone who tried to hurt her family. The feeling wasn't a new one but it certainly wasn't a welcomed one.
"We're on it" kassie knew that voice, it was Tyler "as soon as we make sure no one is lurking in the closets." She relaxed more and waited till him and Matt got to the top of the stairs before she spoke up.
"Our knights in shining armour" she said sarcastically. Both boys ran towards her and enveloped her in a hug
"Thank god you're okay" Tyler said. Kassie pulled away and smiled at him.

"What can I say?" She smirked "you just can't get rid of me" Matt shook his head at her while Tyler just smiled, both of them were just used to her by now.
"You looked terrible when Damon brought you back" Matt said now serious
"What is it with everyone and telling me how bad I look" she exclaimed throwing her hands up in frustration "it's a mystery how any of you got girlfriends" the boys looked at her offended but before they could resort kassie just tapped their heads like petting a dog and jogged down the stairs.

Caroline and elena seemed to be in the middle of an argument about elena's welfare as kassie hits the bottom step of the stairs.
"Now, what can I get you?" Caroline asked elena, draping the latter with a fluffy grey blanket "Do you want some tea, maybe some vodka? Both will help you sleep."
"If she doesn't I will" Kassie laughed drawing both girl's attention to her. Caroline, ignoring her statement ran up to the young girl and pulled her into a hug, the sudden knock made kassie slightly dizzy but she doesn't say anything.

When kassie was finally freed from Caroline's grasp she turned to her sister who, still on the coach, had her arms wide open, ready to receive a hug as well. When the two girls embraced, the eldest pulled the youngest up onto the seat with her. Kassie smiled up at her sister, in a different time this would have been a normal occurrence but now, it was a rare savoured event. Caroline started to baby elena again, this time with the addition of kassie as well, both girls gave her a strained fake smile.
"I know" Caroline sighed collapseing next to the sister's on the coach "I'm being smothering. It's what I do."
"No, it's-" elena thought for a second "it's nice." Kassie nodded in agreement gripping her blonde friend's hand.

"I'm thinking-maybe tea with vodka." Caroline concluded jumping up and all but skipping towards the kitchen. Kassie's smile widened but as if Caroline could see it she shouted "don't even think about it kassie" kassie sighed and turned to face elena who had an amused but slightly uneasy smile.
"I'd love some cheese on toast though" kassie replied "I'm starving" Caroline laughed from the kitchen "How the tables have turned, sister" kassie mused, eyebrow raised "how does it feel being the one mothered?" Elena let's out a breathy laugh.
"Not to bad" she said "I defiantly won't miss it though" elena starts to laugh, kassie laughed with her this time.

"I've missed this" kassie said, eyes finding elena's
"Missed what?" Elena asked, kassie shrugged her shoulders as if saying it was nothing big.
"Us just..." kassie sighed "just being normal I guess. what it was like before everything happened" elena's eyes softened and she pulled kassie into her side.
"I'm sorry about everything, that I've put you all through" the older girl said, laying her head on Kassie's "I'm so sorry"
"Don't blame yourself elena, we have all done things we regret" Kassie's mood dampened as she said it, both girls knew exactly what she was talking about.

"Hey, maybe this is a blessing in disguise" elena suggested, kassie snapped up "I mean, we all knew it was going to end badly. No matter what they say that family was using you whether you could see it or not" this made kassie, angry, no furious. How dare she. Kassie stood up from the couch and started towards the stairs "kassie?"
"Turns our I'm not that hungry after all" she snapped and ran the rest of the way to her room before slamming the door.

When kassie returned back down stairs Caroline was gone and Matt had taken her place. Elena was passed out on the couch a steaming cup of tea sat on the table. The blonde looked up when he heard her nearing him. He had looked a little jumped and scared, a slight twinge of worry but his face soon turned happy and Kassie shrugged it aside leaving it down to her steady quiet entrance.
