Áine || Ney
After being on a get well leave, I'd decided to call back to work and ask for my job back and luckily I still had it. I was feeling pretty okay after my session with doctor Celine who had called to check up on me a few times.I don't know what she thought this was but I ain't one of her little ass friend and I don't want no friendship. I sighed as I looked at myself in the mirror.
The dark circles under my eyes were still pretty much visible. I haven't gotten much sleep. My skin colour was dull as well and peeling at a few spots. I mean how could i get sleep when I just lost my bab--.
I got snapped out of my thoughts by my phone ringing. I glanced over at my phone on the sink counter, seeing my mother's name plastered across the screen.
I picked it up, answering still looking at myself in the mirror. I had to fix myself before work anyways.
"Hi Angel". I said.
"Excuse me? Did I call the wrong number or something?". My mother said over the phone causing me to giggle.
"My bad, hey mommy". I said, placing my phone against the wall so I could sort out the mess on my head.
"Morning my baby, how you doing today?". She asked me causing me to sigh. How was I really doing? Hmmm not so great as usual but I couldn't let her know.
"I'm fine mommy, just getting ready for work". I told her.
"Really? That's great Ney!". She enthusiastically said. I could hear it in her voice.
"Yeah...". I said back still looking in the mirror and seeing my ugly ass staring back at me. I lowly scoffed, a scowl gracing my face. I was ugly as hell.
"Are you going to the family dinner on Thursday?". My mother asked.
"I don't know, why? You can't handle being alone with my daddy?". I joked, earning a snort from her.
"Girl bye, I can handle that man just fine. I just don't want to be around his other wives". Angel said earning a laugh from me.
"You are his wife too, what you talking about?". I asked. Funny story, my father had four wives including my mother and I had seven siblings. He was Congolese, not that, that had anything to do with him having four wives.
I had no problems with his other wives because they treated me as one of their own. My mother on the another hand couldn't stand sharing her man but she still stayed because she was still in love with him and he took care of her no matter what.
My father was a very traditional and old fashion that's why he had four wives. He made sure he looked out for each and every one of his children and wives, that was one thing I loved about him.
"I just don't want no drama". I heard her say. I was now twirling my finger on my curl that popped out.
"Mama you bring the drama." I chuckle causing her to laugh as well.
"Yeah, yeah", she carelessly said, "are you sure you will be fine going back to work? I mean that bitch still works there." I heard her voice changing meaning she was feeling sympathy for me but I didn't want her too. I will be fine.
"I ain't worried about her. I'll be fine mommy, don't worry about me". I finally smiled for the first time in a while. I actually believed I'd be fine.
"Okay baby have fun at work and I love you ". She told me.
"I love you too mommy". I told my mother and after that, she dropped the call. I placed my phone back on the sink and pulled my hair out from the messy bun I had done before.
I grabbed my brush and brushed through my thick curls. I decided to actually look like I wanted to be cute. I grabbed some eco gel and smoothen my edges. I grabbed my three scrunchies and tied my hair into a high bun.
I looked at myself in the mirror and my hair made my face look somewhat better. I brushed out my eyebrows which needed to be threaded. Basically I needed a makeover after all that I've been through.
I looked at myself for the last time and then walked out, grabbing my purse from my bed and making sure all my lights and electrical things were switched off.
I walked out my door, heading to my car parked outside that my father bought for me when I graduated college. Honestly, I came from a well off family. My father made sure my siblings and I had everything and anything we wanted or needed.
We never lack in any aspects of our lives but one thing I know for sure was to never look down on other people who had less or nothing because in life you will never know what the future holds.

Walking inside my job, I'm hit with a nostalgia feeling. I missed being here but at the same time, this place brought so much pain in the past few months.
Walking through the physio ward, I'm greeted by my fellow co workers. I tried my hardest to put a smile on my face as i walked through the locker room and unlocking the door.
"Hey girl, it's been a minute since I've seen you!". One of the girls I worked with said, with a smile on her face. Must be nice to be able to put on a big ass smile like that, I thought as I stared at her.
"Hey Charnae, I had taken some time off". I informed her. I didn't know why I had told her but I felt like I could trust her. It was a energy thing.
"Oh we missed you around here and by we I mean i", she mentioned causing a laugh to slip out.
"I can't stand ms Johnson". Charnae leaned into me, whispering. I let out a giggle because I knew who she was referring about.
Ms Johnson was our supervisor and an old lady who had worked there for roughly thirty years. She was nosy and always rude. Always trying to tell us how to do our jobs as if we didn't know how to.
"Girl I'm glad I didn't have to see her face the past few weeks. I know she's gonna give me an earful when I get out here". I said, causing her to chuckle while shaking her head.
"You about to get it from her and never hearing the end of it. It doesn't help we getting new patients".
"I don't care about what she has to say, as long as she don't mess with my money".
"You right sis". Charnae gave me a smile and I couldn't help but notice how beautiful she was. Her dark brown skin was clear with no acne spots, smooth like chocolate. Her teeth were white, with thick pinkish lips. Her make up done to perfection. It was minimal which I liked.
Her loose waves on her head were pulled back by the blue hair band, showing her ears which had little diamond studs. I couldn't help but feel plain besides her and it didn't help her body was snatched while I was still struggling to lose my baby fat.
We walked together, having a small talk and heading to our floor. We got there just in time for our assigned patients. We all stood around, being called outside and given a file with all the details about our patients
I thought that was a clever way of getting to know our patients before we actually met them so we knew what to do and what not to do.
"Ah-ne". Ms Johnson said.
"Its Awn-yah bitch". I mumbled walking up to her. A fake smile graced my face as I took the file out her hand. I hated it when people pronounce my name wrong and it didn't help I've working here since i started college and that woman knew my name but she deliberately chose to ignore it.
When she was done, she had dismissed everyone and told us to get to work.
My patient, unfortunately chose to be treated in his house which I respected, but I wasn't up for the forty-five minutes' drive to his house. I scanned through his file and took note of some of the details listed.
This should be interesting.
