summary; modern day ponyboy and reader are in a long distance relationship and she surprises him for his 15th birthday.

*the night before*

It was the night before you would get on a plane to Tulsa, Oklahoma and surprise your boyfriend of 8 months for his 15th birthday. You had lived in Tulsa for the first two months of your relationship, and after a long talk you guys decided to continue it even after you moved to Arizona. You guys were able to visit each other on holidays and during your breaks from school, but not as much as either of you would have liked to.

It was currently July 20th, two days before Ponyboy's birthday, and he had absolutely no clue that you were coming. The two of you had talked about you coming to visit him for his birthday, because he had visited you for yours. He was crushed when you told him that you wouldn't be able to fly out, but he was understanding because he knew these things weren't easy. What he didn't know, was that you had already been talking with your parents, Darry, and Soda about flying out by yourself to surprise him.

When the relationship was still new, you would fly out with your mom and get a hotel room, same with Pony but he would fly with Darry or Soda. This would be the first time you would be visiting by yourself; it took a lot of convincing, but your parents and Darry came to an agreement to let you stay with them.

As you were packing your bag for the next day, you got a face time call from Ponyboy, something that you guys did everynight before bed. You walked over to your bed where your phone lay and picked it up, before answering. You made sure to position yourself where the suitcase wasn't in the background of the call, while still being able to talk and pack.

"Hey bubs." You smiled when you saw his face. He had been laying in bed already, the tv screen being the only light in the dark room.

"Hi angel. What are you doing?" He asked.

"Um going through my closet." You struggled to come up with a lie.

"Oh fun." He spoke sarcastically.  "I miss you."

"I miss you more bubs. I'm really sorry about your birthday." You fake pouted.

"It's okay, you can't control it." He sighed sadly.

After your phone call with Ponyboy ended, you finished packing and got ready for bed. You threw on a big t-shirt, some shorts, and got into your bed before drifting off to sleep.

*the next day*

Today was the the day. In just a few hours you would be heading to the airport to catch a plane to Tulsa. You killed some time by watching youtube and scrolling through social media before getting ready to leave. You wanted to look somewhat cute because you were going to surprise him straight from the airport. You put on a baggy pair of blue jeans, with a brown sweatshirt that had teddy bears on it, and a white collared shirt underneath it. You quickly straightened your hair and put on some jewelry before heading out. Your older sister was driving you to the airport, when Ponyboy face timed you. As much as you hated to do so, you declined his call and texted him some fake excuse as to why you couldn't talk at the moment.

When you finally got to the airport, you said your goodbyes to your sister and headed toward your gate. As you were waiting for your flight to be called to board the plane, you began texting Soda. He and Steve were going to pick you up from the airport, while Darry and the others were back home with Ponyboy. Everyone had told Pony that they were celebrating his birthday a day early this year so he could do whatever he wanted on his actual birthday, but that was a lie. They were actually celebrating his birthday early, but that was only because you would be coming in today and they needed to distract him. They were also celebrating early, because the two of you had plans alone tomorrow to celebrate, but Pony didn't know this yet.

After the boring two and a half hour flight, you face timed Soda and Steve as you were leaving the baggage claim with your stuff. You waited a couple of rings before he finally picked up.

"Hey I just landed where are you?" You asked, walking aimlessly around the airport.

"Steve and I are parked outside the area where you pick people up." He spoke. He was sitting in the passenger seat of Steve's car, the two of them anxiously waiting for you to find them.

When you finally made it out to the car, the two of them helped you get your stuff in the trunk and opened your car door for you to get in the back seat.

"He's gonna be so excited when he sees you. The poor kid was crushed when you told him you weren't coming." Soda spoke excitedly.

"I know, I felt terrible for doing it." You pouted.

The rest of the way home was filled with small talk and a lot of catching up, until you finally pulled up in front of the house. Soda sent Darry a quick text to say that you guys were out front, so they could get you in the house without Ponyboy noticing. When Darry finally confirmed that Two Bit, Dallas, and Johnny had dragged him to the lot to mess around, the three of you came inside as quickly as possible.

"Okay so Y/N, we're gonna hide you in the kitchen and then when you hear us tell him we have a surprise for him, wait for him to say something, and then come out." Soda talked at a fast pace.

"Okay." You nodded anxiously, pacing around the kitchen while Darry called Dally to tell him that you were at the house and they needed to head back.

Your palms began to sweat and you were shaking when you heard the front door open and the four boys piled into the living room. You held your breath when Darry started speaking as if that would do anything to help calm your nerves.

"Cake is ready, but before that Ponyboy we have a surprise for you." He said.

"A surprise?" Ponyboy asked kind of confused. To anybody who didn't know him too well they would think he was having a good time, but for people who did, you could tell there was something bothering him. And if you had to guess it would be the fact that you weren't going to be celebrating his birthday with him, or so he thought.

You took a deep breath, before stepping out of the kitchen and into the living room, where everybody stood. Ponyboy hadn't been looking in the right direction, until Two Bit patted his shoulder and pointed at you.

"Oh my god." He mumbled, covering his mouth in shock.

"Hi baby." You smiled shyly as he started walking your way.

You walked straight into his arms as he held them open for you and he lifted you up so you could wrap your legs around his waist.

"I thought weren't coming." He mumbled into your hair.

"Surprise." You giggled, sliding out of his grip to look at him.

"You look so pretty." He smiled, taking in the sight of you before him.

"Thank you bubs. Happy birthday." You smiled, leaning in and kissing him, completely forgetting about everyone else in the room.
