Unbreakable.

That's what they say when they think you're a tough person. And I'd like to consider myself unbreakable for everything I've been through. But I'll have to show how it all started. Because it's crazy how I got there. So, dear reader,

We need to go to the beginning.

POP

I walk down the stairs, bloodstained handprints smeared across the wall. My boots making a small squelching sound while stepping in more blood. I grab my phone from my purse. getting ready to call the police if I see something dangerous. I take another step downstairs as if I know what's going to happen.

POP

I don't know why I take another step down there. Why I didn't just run up and call the police. Tell them that something is wrong. Maybe I want to know the truth, Maybe I want to find out who's doing this. I've always been told to expect the unexpected. But I never listen. Because nothing crazy ever happens in Wellbrooke.

The same thing happens every time I enter my home. I come home to my parents and my best friend who lives with us, Lily Parish. My parents typically sit at the TV, watching some stupid reality show that makes no sense to me. And Lily is either in her room, playing her music and smoking pot, or in my room waiting to give me juicy gossip about her coworkers.

That's how it has always been.

POP

Outside, rain falls hard. Heavy clouds, creating a tense atmosphere. Then a crack of thunder shakes the building.

A storm is brewing faster.

POP

I shrug off the shiver that goes down my spine and continue down the stairs. I hear the TV still playing, but it's quieter than normal. No laughter or playful banter between my parents. Just as I touch the doorknob, I hear a scream. A blood-curdling scream that stops me in my tracks.

"BETHANY!"

The sound of glass shattering makes me jump.

POP

"TELL ME WHERE THE FILE IS!" Someone yells.

POP

"I don't know, please just let us go! Douglas, I beg of you!" My father cries.

POP

"Please, just don't hurt my girls. That's all I ask." He pleads.

POP POP POP

I twist the knob and open the door. My mother was kneeling by my father, his arm covered in blood. My best friend behind my mom crying. A scream erupts from my throat. It startles the captor and my family.

"Delilah, RUN! NOW!" My mother yells. Lily stands to come with me, But the captor holds the gun toward her. She whimpers and goes back to her place behind my mom.

POP POP

"Please, PLEASE, don't hurt the girls. I'm the one who ruined everything. Not them."

I stand watching my father try to bargain with the hooded man. The hooded man removes the covering. revealing Robin Sayeed. An old friend of mine. But, my father called him Douglas?
