This is 2 days before they all go home for summer break.

JAMES' POV

He was calmly waiting for her to walk through the portrait hole while he sat on the crimson arm a few feet away from the fire place.

James had been waiting for some time now, the incident with ambushing snape was a complete success for James, even though he didn't plan for what played out to happen. He saw this as a win for him, because for one: snape and Lily weren't friends anymore, and so it was easy for him to win lily over. He always saw the slimy git as competition and he was 100% sure snape was trying to recruite her for the dark side, because other than himself, snape was the only boy close to lily.

James knew lily was a wonderful human being, so wonderful, she would marry the ugliest toad just to save its life, in other words.. that toad is snape.

James knew he was superior to snape, he had everything snape could only dream of, like his money or his good looks and lets not forget his dashing personality, the only thing that slimy git is good for is his intelligence, but we all know James would never admit that out loud.

As James went over some things in his brain about being so much better than snape, he heard the portrait open, he snapped his head around to catch sight of lily entering the room with another girl in their year.

"Evans!" James yelled her name with a broad smile on his face.

Lily looked his way and swiftly turned away from him to walk to her dorm, ignoring his calls she walked away.

"Wait Evans!"

"leave me alone Potter I'm not in the mood right now!" She yelled back.

"But-" James.

"Shove off Potter lily isn't in the mood to listen to you right now!"- Lily's friend.

James sighed as he watched them go.

"Why don't you try talking to her when we come back from summer break?"

James whipped around startled, then he realised it was just Sirius.

"He's right James, why don't you try talking to her when we get back, maybe by then she'll get used to not being friends with snivellus"

James sighed again, and went up to their dorm to finish packing his things, this was all snape's fault, Lily has been so out of it because of snape, he didn't have a chance to ask her out!

He had recently heard that snape had been trying to apologise to lily, but she's not forgiving him, James snickered.

Did snape really think he had a chance now that he had called her that horrid name?

Well whatever, he'd have to teach snape a lesson the next time he saw him, he's not missing a chance of letting out some steam.

Present day

SEVERUS' POV

Severus felt the Hogwarts express jerk to a stop, he got up and rubbed his eyes, he waited for a bit knowing the corridor of the train would be filled of students rushing out of compartments, hoping to meet their parents and other family outside.

He frowned at the thought, hopefully he'll arrive home to see his mother alive and well, knowing his father, he wouldn't put it past him.

As a child, Severus would study the behaviour of his father, he knew his father would beat his mother or him mercilessly, if one were to make a mistake of any sort, or he would do it for no apparent reason.
