Neil was tired as hell, but wanted to wait until they were back in their bungalows.
What would he have done if it weren't for Matt and Andrew? Would he still sit there in the dark? But one thing he was sure now, if Neil sat in the dark, his friends brought the light to him.
****
Neil woke with a start.
He hadn't had the time to look for where he was, he grabbed for anything, but found nothing. Just a hand keeping him down. It was obviously Andrew's, his hot hands were unmistakable, and other people wouldn't have touched him that way. And in that way, he meant as much as caressing his skin.
He soon noticed he was still in the car. He had been out for at least three minutes which felt like hours and nothing, both. Time was slow, was his conclusion.
The engine was humming and Matt sat in the front, behind the wheel, his stare fixed on the road in front of them. The darkness of the night was still there, unsurprisingly.
Andrew's fingers started tapping, the sensation confusing the auburn haired.
Neil noticed later that his own head was laying in Andrew's lap, who played with his hair in one hand. It was somewhat, somehow calming. He didn't know why, due to a matter of fact.
His way of adoring, was taken to a new level since the other night. Every moment they had shared, he had those weird feelings in the pit of his stomach, which he earlier accused to hunger or other.
Matt wasn't watching them. He could peak through the mirrors, but it didn't matter. And neither of them seemed to care at the moment.
Neil reached up to Andrew's hand and brushed one of his fingers against Andrew's, sending a welcomed electric jolt through his body.
Andrew had his gaze fixated on Neil's eyes as soon as the striker had opened them. His expression once again said nothing about his feelings, but the gold in his eyes glittered brighter than usual, reflecting the passing lights of lanterns.
All in all made Neil's heart beat quicken. The rolling gravel under the wheels and the engine where the only things they heard, besides their own breathing sounds.
"Where're there in a second, guys, so you know", Matt interrupted the silence. Not noticing the almost intimate moment that played in the back of the car.
The cushion of the seats were not comfortable enough to sleep well, but it had just been enough on his time on the run. He'll never forget it.
Breaking into people's cars was one thing, but actually falling asleep during a ride while people where around was something new.
Neil wondered why these emotions turned up so suddenly. He'd always kept to the cities at the coast and he'd seen and heard the ocean countless times.
Maybe his loss over the years were too much to bottle up right then with the overwhelming feelings of the opposite side of grieve. All the trouble he had caused and all the lives it has cost, and he still wouldn't change a thing, if it meant losing what he had right now. And he wouldn't give that up. Not ever in a million years.
Andrew poked his cheek to make sure he was still with them and Neil tried for a wry smile.
He was one of the Foxes, everyone had said it. His mind just wouldn't live up to the idea of having a stable life, a stable future even.
The car hummed to a stop, and Andrew's finger disappeared from his cheek, leaving the sweet sensation cold.
Neil didn't want to remember. Didn't want to remember the roaring ocean, his father, Lola. But he did. Clearly. You could sense it; his heartbeat quickened, sweat formed on his forehead. He tried to prevent himself from seeing it, so he took a deep breath to calm himself. He counted to ten in three different languages. Did it help? He was about to find out.
