Hey guys! It's been a little while now since this story was finished but the reads are still coming in and I've been seeing a lot of the same question that you guys are asking, so I decided I would answer it in a new part now that the story is finished.

A lot of people have been asking what the deal is with Harry's galleon and Draco's shard of mirror. I'm going to be retracing our steps through the story to analyze the meaning of them with you!

Let's go back to chapter 9: this is when the galleon was first introduced. During Christmas break, Harry and Hermione stayed with the Weasleys. He opened his gifts until there was one left, a small box with a silver ribbon tied around it. This was from Draco. At first glance, it seemed to be an ordinary galleon, there wasn't anything special or different about it.

In the next chapter, they are on their way back to school. On the train, Draco comes over to Harry, Ron and Hermione's compartment to have a private conversation with Harry. About half way through the chapter, Harry and Draco are alone in a compartment when Draco pulls out a piece of broken mirror.

In the chapter, the mirror is described as "...a piece of a mirror, similar to the one he [Harry] had from Sirius. Harry looked at it, felt his face heat up, and looked at Malfoy" Now we can infer that the mirror is from Harry. A little further down in the conversation, Draco says this, "I looked in it on my way to the garbage can and something caught my eye...at first I thought my mind was playing tricks on me but then I saw your scar..."

Keep that in mind, it is important for later.

In chapter 13, we finally see what is so special about the galleon Harry received. As he is walking with Ron and Hermione, it starts to heat up until it's too hot to touch, and then after a little bit of time it cools down again. It was never said out right that the galleon was from Draco, but with context clues we can figure out that it was.

Nobody knew where it came from; while Harry was at the Burrow opening his presents, nobody recognized it. None of their schoolmates ever said anything about it, and any close friend probably would have left a note. Now, at the end of chapter 13 after the galleon got hot and cooled down again, the three of them went to the Great Hall. Harry noticed that Draco was nowhere to be seen; this is important for later.

In chapter 14, Draco and Harry sneak off to the room of requirement, where they see the mirror of erised. They stand in front of it together and Draco points out that there is a piece of it missing, to which Harry replies "I know"

From this, we can conclude that the mirror was in fact from Harry. He wasn't surprised to find the mirror missing a piece, and when he asks Draco what he sees, Draco says "It's a mirror, Potter, obviously I see you and me". If we connect that line with the one a couple chapters back when Draco explains that he saw Harry in his piece of mirror, we now know that Harry took a piece of the mirror of erised and gave it to Draco. His deepest desire was to be with Harry.

Jumping to chapter 18, we get more clues about the galleon. One of the more obvious ones is when Harry and Draco are alone in a classroom doing you-know-what, and the galleon starts to heat up. This happens multiple times again, but I want to bring special attention to the time in chapter 27. Harry and Draco were both on the Hogwarts Express together, but they didn't know it yet. We first see Draco on one end in his compartment thinking about stuff and then proceeds to please himself (for lack of better words). Right after that, the story cuts to Harry, who throws the galleon on the floor because of how hot it was getting. With all of those clues, we can put together that the galleon given to Harry from Draco was enchanted to heat up every time Draco was in the mood as a way of getting Harry's attention without him actually knowing what was going on.

There were a couple of people who commented about this and guessed correctly. I never said exactly what the mirror and galleon represented because I wanted it to be an underlying but significant symbol for their feelings for each other in this story.

I hope this explanation made sense and for everyone who was wondering it helped you guys put the pieces together!

Thank you guys again for reading this story, and stay tuned because a new story is being developed!
