Christmas came and went, and soon the New Year came. Kara was used to balancing her personal life in high school and home with her life as Supergirl. She could consider Kevin an ally she could trust as he would keep her secret safe, along with the secret identities of her friends, despite the fact that he wasn't interested in being a superhero. During the weeks, Metropolis High was promoting the Sadie Hawkins school dance. Diana asked Steve out to that particular dance, and he said yes. Kara didn't really care much for the school dances. She never really attended them and there were often times when she would have to not go at all due to some emergency that required Supergirl's help. Of course, she wasn't the only one who was never really interested in these dances. When it came to high school dances, she, Barbara, Karen, Jessica, Diana, and Zee would have a party at Sweet Justice and maybe a sleepover. Maybe they would get their nails done on occasion. Or they were busy saving Metropolis as their heroic alter egos.
But Kara liked Kevin. She had come to the conclusion that she was in love with him. And she wanted to go out with him on a date. And the Sadie Hawkins dance seemed like a nice opportunity. Kara and Diana were in their superhero outfits and had just stopped a robbery, so they were hanging out. "Are you planning on going to the Sadie Hawkins Dance, Kara?" Wonder Woman asked. "Actually, yeah..." Supergirl admitted. Diana smiled and asked, "Who are you planning to ask?" Kara rubbed her arm and said, "I'm thinking of asking Kevin out..." She blushed and smiled a little. "What is stopping you from asking him?" Diana asked. "What if he doesn't want to go out with me?" Kara nervously asked, "especially since I'm an alien with superpowers and there's the fact that I hide my insecurities with my anger... although I haven't really lost my temper around Kevin..." She fidgeted with her hands as she rambled on. Diana placed her hand on Kara's shoulder and said, "Kara, you will not know if he wants to go out with you if you do not find out for yourself. You are many things to me Kara Danvers. You are like a sister to me, you are a brave warrior, and you are my friend. Barbara and I have faith you can ask him out confidently." Kara smiled and said, "thank you Diana. I'm gonna do it!"
The next day, after lunch Kara went to her locker and saw that Kevin was putting his stuff away. "Hey Kevin..." Kara shyly said. Kevin perked up and said, "oh hey Kara. What's the good word?" He smiled at her. "Uh... Hey Kev... if you're not busy or anything," began Kara, "would you want to go out with me to the Sadie Hawkins dance?" Kara felt better after asking that. Now she had to wait with baited breath whether Kevin would say yes or not. Kevin laid his back on his locker and said, "gee... I'm going to be really honest with you Kara, no one has ever asked me out to a dance before... and I do have my after-school job with Filoni's... but I think I might have time..." Kara looked down and nervously rambled, "well if you don't want to go, that's okay... I mean I wouldn't want to force you to do anything you don't want to do..." Kevin chuckled, held Kara's hand, and said, "sure. I would love to go out to the Sadie Hawkins dance with you, Kara." The Kryptonian gasped in surprise, then she smiled and said, "oh thank you so much Kevin! If I didn't have super strength right now I would totally hug you right now! I so can't wait to go out to the dance with you!" She squealed in excitement. Kevin smiled and said, "thanks for asking me out Kara. I'll see you in cooking class, okay?" As the two went to their respective classes, they were both mutually excited to go out to the Sadie Hawkins dance.
