Shuichi POV

It's September 7th. The day my father died last year and also my birthday woo. I peaked into Maki's classroom and saw my sister laughing with her friends. Her friend, who wore the leather jacket was wearing a huge crown and did a little spin.  I watched the three friends furious. The girl in the leather jacket caught me watching and I slightly panicked.Suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned towards a short boy with long hair. Kokichi was odd. He would often give me little smiles and try to talk to me. I find him annoying at times, but he's a good kid. Since the day I was introduced to the class, he was pretty talkative around me. Yet other people scared him.

"Hey... scho...schools over want to walk home together?" He stuttered. "It... it's your birthday isn't it." Kokichi asked.

"I'm going to have to pass. But thanks for offering! I said fake smiling at the shorter male. He walked away seeming a bit sad. I looked back into the classroom and decided to listen in on whatever conversation the girls were having.

"Sorry I can't tonight. I have to pick something up for my mom." The blonde said, putting on her book bag.

"And my dad wants me home. Family dinner." Rantaro shrugged. The girl with the red eyes looked kind of sad. "Oh, it's fine. I'll just practice some guitar at home." She smiled. Though I could see pain in her eyes. Suddenly I felt like going over to her and giving her a hug. I didn't know why she was sad, but in a weird way I felt connected to her. I was suddenly pissed at Maki for being such a bad friend for the brunette.

Kaede POV

I walked into 11037 bakery and began to skip to the counter. I was getting Maki's cake for her surprise birthday party. "Hey I'm here for Kaede Akamatsu's order." I said smiling at the lady working at the counter.

"Kaede?" I heard a familiar voice. I spun around and saw Maki's mother. She was a nurse who was often busy with work. Though she was always kind to me.

"Miss Harukawa! I thought you had work tonight." I said looking at the kind woman as the worker went to go get the treats I got for tonight.

"I took off for Maki. I couldn't miss my child's birthday." Her mom grinned. " I went to her favorite album store and hot topic to buy her gifts. Then I was going to buy her dessert, but you handled it."

The lady came back and I attempted to pick up the two huge bags I got.

"Wait, let me help you." Maki's mother said, walking over to me and taking one of the bags. We walked out of the store together talking about the weather and the super despair bowl.

Shuichi POV

I watched quietly from a distance as a familiar looking woman and my sister walked out of the dessert shop. They seemed to be laughing and having a good time. I wondered what they were saying. They were probably making fun of me for being alone on my own birthday. I looked down at the picture of my mom and dad. This woman would pay for abandoning me. I headed off to the library cafe in town . My plan was to once again hide until everyone was gone and sleep there. I tried not to cry as I prepared for another birthday alone.
