"Nyla down!" Jet yelled as the large beast ran around on the ship as the sun started to rise but they were past the shore in case Ozai decided to hop on board again.
"Nyla behave," June called as she sat on the stairs and Zuko was sitting next to her sewing the gash on her arm back together.
Katara was let out of the quarters and looked back at the open door confused why she was shoved in there in the first place. She saw the captain focused on June's arm as he seemed like a pro with the needle. There was bandage wrappings around his forearm as well and she could see the blood seeping through under, he didn't pay attention to it.
"So what even happened? How did he know it was you?" Zuko asked quietly as he wrapped her arm gently.
"He knows I'm with you, that's all Ozai needs to know... I'm sorry," June looked down disappointed in herself but flinched when Zuko tightened the bandage on her arm.
"For what?" He didn't understand.
"He didn't know where you were before, I lead him to you," she sighed softly.
Zuko shrugged it off as he put the kit away.
"It doesn't matter, it wasn't your fault, did you get the herbs still?" He asked sitting with her. June reached in her pocket on the side and handed him a bag.
"A cup of tea a night should help him keep his food down and get him to sleep better, with not knowing what's wrong with him there's not much we can do, he needs a doctor," June told him as Zuko looked inside curiously.
"I know, but what doctor is going to help a pirate and a fire bender? Only good doctors in the earth kingdom is in ba sing si," he sighed holding the bag close with his eyes down.
"I'd get hung on the wall itself if they got ahold of me," Zuko smiled a little.
"What about the fire nation?" June offered and Zuko closed his eyes.
"What if it's time for you-" "no, don't," Zuko snapped at her a little with a glare.
"Lee don't let your pride get the best of you," she warned.
"Dont you think if that was a good idea it would've been the first thing I'd try, I talked to ty Lee and Mai about it and they both said that would get all of us killed," he shook his head glaring at the ground.
"He's dying, what more do you have to lose?" June hissed.
"Since when did you care?" Zuko scoffed.
"He's our father Lee," June grabbed his arm harshly and everyone looked at them confused. Katara was frozen being the only one that knew what the conversation was.
Zuko looked down again calmly but clenched his fists tightly.
"Your his son, your his kid too, you know that right?" June told him softly once all eyes were off them.
"I'll go get started on the tea, see how captains feeling," Zuko got up as Katara watched surprised but saw a drop of blood next to June where Zuko was sitting.
"I think he's still bleeding, should someone check on him?" Katara asked looking at Mai. The older girl looked at the opened quarters where her boyfriend went but shrugged.
"Lee can take care of himself," Mai shrugged it off.
Katara frowned but didn't move, he could bleed out for all she cares, but there was more happening on the ship than she even knew. She needed to have value if she wanted them to not throw her away or worst to that pirate before. She needed her bending back.
"June right?" Katara looked over at the older woman.
"Are you the captains sister?" She asked softly.
"He's adopted, I'm claiming no shared blood with that Tyrant," June scoffed but held her arm in pain.
"But he trusts you a lot?" Katara urged a little.
June paused for a moment but nodded, almost hesitant to think if the captain trusted her more than anyone else on this ship, besides her father. If June was being honest she didn't know how much Zuko trusted her, she wasn't always there...
"We've been through some shit, but I can call him a reliable guy for myself," June said calmly and glanced at Katara.
"Why aren't you in the cell?"
"I think the captain doesn't know what to do with me," Katara said boredly resting her chin on her fist.
"They still keep me from bending and ty Lee is my guard basically, but I'll behave if that means I get to stay on deck," she told her honestly.
"I just want to know what it will take for me to keep it like this and keep some value so captain doesn't sell me..." she mumbled embarrassed a little how ridiculous it sounded.
"He won't sell you, that was a joke," June rolled her eyes.
"If anything he'll start putting you to work soon, you work to eat, that's how the Phoenix always been," she explained and watched her pet play around on the deck.
"What if I tried seeing if my bending can heal the sick?"
June looked at her glaring a little, she didn't believe this girl who Zuko took hostage, would suddenly start willingly healing their sick and their injured, it was definitely to get their guard down. Zuko nor anyone on this ship was that stupid.
"You said it yourself," June waved her off.
"Unless you were lying?" She raised a brow suspiciously. Katara squeaked a little remembering the threat.
"No im willing to learn and try at least, no water bender has tried or at least scrolls don't tell us how, trust me I would've healed my fevers in the past if I could," Katara laughed nervously.
"I think it could be possible,"
"Trust you? Why?" June didn't find it funny.
Katara was lost for words as she was even more nervous around the woman, she scared Katara at the very least.
"Talk to the captain, he's in charge, if you really think you can do it," she sighed shaking her head and motioned to the captains quarter.
"But Princess, don't play a game you don't have a plan for, you'll always end up losing," June warned grabbing the knife from her boot. Katara pursed her lips but got up to walk over to the room that she was shoved in.
Katara knocked on the door before and listened for a response, she heard talking but it sounded like two men. She didn't see anyone enter.
"Captain?" She knocked again.
Katara gasped a little backing up when the door was swung open and saw the young man standing tall. She saw his shirt was different and it covered his arms completely, almost like he was hiding something.
"What the fuck do you want?" Zuko glared.
"Sorry forgot to let you know, he hates it when people bother him in there!" June called over and Kataras face burned in embarrassment again as Zuko had a harsh look.
"I-I just wanted to talk," Katara gulped.
